Our collaboration with B. Nektar Meadery. Ghost Stories is a Braggot (fermented from both barley and from honey) that was brewed with lager yeast, making it a truly unique experience. The honey used for the mead portion is Meadowfoam, which is most notable for its huge marshmallow flavors. We also added some chocolate, coconut, Chinese black smoked tea, and a touch of white oak as well.

Bottle at my birthday tasting, many thanks to jackl. It pours near black with a medium beige head. The nose is roasted malt, earth, toast, cocoa, dark fruit, berry, vanilla and coconut. The taste is roasted malt, toast, blueberry, blackberry, marshmallow, chocolate, caramel, coconut, toast and earth with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Fulsome in flavour. Pretty tasty!

Bottle thanks to Randall! Pours a black walnut with a thin grayish brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has notes of burnt marshmallow with light sweet honey, a bit of graham cracker and a touch of bitter chocolate. Flavor starts with honey and marshmallow and has a finish of bitter chocolate.

From the March 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a large brown bottle this beer poured a thick black color with a small soapy/foamy brown head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sweet licorice, cocoa, coffee and vanilla. The flavor was bitter cocoa, caramel, coconut, coffee, licorice, vanilla and bourbon. Medium length boozy cocoa, licorice and coconut finish. Moderately full bodied and creamy. Interesting.

Pours medium brown color with tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, honey, chocolate and marshmallow. Similar flavors with a hint of smokiness. Kinda weird but tasty. Decent in small pours. Medium body with minimal carbonation.

Bottle at RBWG 2013. Pours dark brown with a fine, beige cream head. Weird nose, doesn’t smell like a mead, some burnt wood. Medium to big sweet flavor, some herbs, burnt sugars. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, more burnt sugar, some spices. Meh, kind of messy.

Hmm, a little disappointing. Pours dark brown, near opaque in the glass, cola colored, modest and quick head. Nose has hints of coconut, oak. Flavor is weird, cloying, nothing distinct that I can identify just a weird sense of acrid honey and coconut and roast. Bitter honey finish is weird.
