A Belgian Quad by recipe, but aging it in spirits barrels garners its own category: Central Coast Quad. A beer formulated to sit on the sweeter and malty side so that we could utilize it for blending. Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico and Belgian candi sugar add wonderful molasses flavors. It has a full body and lush texture with barrel expression all over this beer: toasted oak, coconut, leather and cigar tobacco.

Original Rating 22.08.2018: 0,1l taster at home courtesy of Sander, big thanks. almost black color, small coffee colored head. smells of bourbon, marzipan, nutty, coconut, vanilla, very light dried fruits, very lovely smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of bourbon, vanilla, coconut, some brown and candy sugar, flowery, light mint notes, some toasty notes, bit nutty. finishes lightly sweet with notes o fbourbon, brown sugar and some mint notes. Vintage 2017. 12.5% ABV. dark brown color, small tan head. smells marzipan, nutty, wood, bourbon, vanilla, earthy, light sherry, bitter chocolate. very nice smell. full body, light carbonation. tastes of bourbon, marzipan, nutty, light vanilla, mint, wood, light figs, bit fudgy. finishes very lightly sweet with notes of marzipan, nuts and some vanilla. very very nice one, so smooth, great great balance. great beer. 8, 4, 9, 4, 19

Almost clear deep deep amber beer, tidy pale tan head. Smooth and reasonably light palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a mild creamy sweetness. Dominant but very smooth fruity bourbon. Smooth and well integrated coconut. Light creamy sweetish finish. It's typically FW decadent and smooth and typically drinkable. Am I allowed to like this beer?.After all they sold out to Duvel Moortgat. Independent brewers ain't allowed to do that are they? Sorry - I just remembered I don't give a crap! Good beer is good beer and this is good beer.

2018 bottle - 11.4% - dark purple pour - aroma of vanilla, coconut, toasted oak, brown sugar, dark fruit, cigar tobacco - deeply sweet flavor - moderate booze, vanilla, dark fruit - somewhat hot finish.

Draught, listed with 12.5 % abv in the program, at MBCC green (fourth) session. Dark brown body with a ruby shade. Spotty lacing, naked surface. Solid dried fruity aromas, hints of brown malts. Well blended taste of prunes, nuts, brittle caramel and brown sugar. Warming, long, sweet tail. Sipper qualities that was way too sweet for me. (Copenhagen 12.05.2018).

2015 bomber drunk 12/9/17.
Dark amber, clear. No head.
Rich waves of toffee in the nose, buttery and smooth with raisin-vanilla notes, as well. Alcohol is neither sharp nor very present. Probably wouldn't pick it out as Belgian from the nose, but regardless, the malt is done very nicely and the barrel has obviously contributed an even, mild character to the richness without any toast or other sharp/dominant notes.
Very smooth, sweet, soft in the mouth with chocolate, toffee, caramel and vanilla. Very little barrel character, to be honest and no astringency, sharp wood or booze. Very barleywine-esque and as noted in the nose, not terribly Belgian. Some light clove and fruit character is about the extent of it. Still, it's aged very nicely and has a rounded, flavorful character to it overall. Low, engaging carbonation and a soft, malty texture.

The best American quadrupel? Many people think so, I am here now to find out. This 2017 vintage 12 oz bottle was located at a nice liquor store in Santa Fe, NM several months ago, pricey as I recall. Finally it is time to pull it out and give it a go. I lift the cap (Lions, Bears, and Beers it says) and pour into my fave glass, a Trappistes Rochefort chalice. A dark brown-red body and a wispy light tan rim of foam around the glass. Intriguing nose, raisins, hard Christmas candy, dates. Enough of that, I need to drink. Wow, extraordinary. More of the dark fruit, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, dough. Lightly bitter following. Comparable to Rochefort 10 but lacking the spiciness. The 12.5% abv speaks but is not beating me in the side of the head. Well worth the wait. USA, USA.

Poured from 650mL bottle [No. 003 - 2016 vintage - 11.6% ABV]. Clear dark amber brown with beige head. Caramel malt with lots of dried fruits, a little bourbon in the background, alcohol is mild, I aged this for about a year and I think it may have actually hurt it a bit. It still tasted good, but had a slightly flat quality about it that I can't put my finger on.
