Pours ruby red with a tawny head. Aroma is plantain, caramel, prunes, whisky and liqueur, but none of them so intense. Taste is fresh, balanced, somewhat mellow, short-lasting. Nice but simple.

Tap at the Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Charles Quint Ruby @ 9%. Poured a clear dark copper colour with a frothy light tan head and some clingy lace. The aroma is yeast, wild red berry fruit. The flavour is moderate sweet with some sour and bitter notes too. The palate is yeast, over ripe red berry fruit, dry dusty mineral. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Piana mocna, w kolorze beżowym, nie utrzymuje się zbyt długo.
Aromat słodki, słodowy, smażone śliwki, malina i minimalnie alkohol.

Launched in 2000 to celebrate the 500th birthday of emperor Charles V, who was born in Flanders. Tasted in its original form and in the renamed Keizer Karel Robijnrood form. Distantly related to the old Diesters bier, with which Haacht has a certain affinity. Creamy, light beige head and bronze colour; sweet smell of candi syrup, amaretto, chocolate, candied dates and raisins. Sweet and smooth taste, bit resinous, caramelly, body rather thin for a beer of this strenght, warm alcoholic finish. Never liked this very much but quite okay, for a Haacht brew.
