On tap at Delirium Cafe, pours a deep dark mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out caramely bready malt and dark dried fruits. Flavour is quite similar, with notes of dark dried fruits, caramel and bready malt. Full-bodied and medium sweet, but without any cloying quality. Very well-balanced and highly drinkable for the style. Very good.

Pours dark amber with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma contains (red) fruits, spices, yeast, hay, caramel and malt. It tastes medium fruity sweet and light spicy bitter; dry, hoppy, spicy finish with some warming alcohol. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Not so special, but a decent ale. Gollem Proeflekaal, Amsterdam: Pours light brown with an off-white head. Aroma is lightly fruity and yeasty. Taste is ever so slightly bitter. Somewhat sweet. Pretty much a standard, darker BSA. I had no complaints while drinking it.

Der Antrunk ist muffig-würzig, der Hauptteil wird fruchtiger, die alkoholische Note ist aber durchaus spürbar. Es schmeckt nach Kräutern, aber die angegebene Orangenschale ist nur im letzten Teil des Nachgeschmacks zu spüren, wo leichte Zitrusnoten zusammen mit moderater Herbe auftauchen. Der Nachgeschmack ist leicht süßlich-schwer, angenehm, aber insgesamt etwas muffig. Durchaus probierenswert.

Bottle, as Keizer Karel / Charles Quint, 8.5%. Pours clear dark orange amber with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, fruit, and orange peel. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, with fruity and spicy notes. Thick mouthfeel. Lingering, sweet finish.. Warming alcohol presence. Something for a teddy bear on a long winter’s night. Instead of a cup Glühwein, that is :-) I find it a little too sweet, though.

Glass at a restaurant, dark ruby cola like colour, aroma of mats, Liquorice (confectionery), maybe dark chocolate ?, taste is malts and liquorice, overall a decent beer, very drinkable.

Charles Quint Ambrée 8.5% 600 yen from the Belgian Beer Weekend. It pours a lovely amber with a thick head. A nice bready malty sweet aroma. The flavor is boozy, fruity then malt & caramel followed by a crisp mildly bitter finish. Bice thick bready body. Some slight warming too. Maybe good for a cold winter night but it doesn’t match a hot summer night. Decent.
