Can, courtesy of MiP. A clear, golden beer topped by a small, off-white head. Malty-sweet nose with some alcohol. The flavor is pretty much the same, with some bitterness added. Full-bodied and way too warming. It’s sort of drinkable, and not completely awful, and I bet it does its job, get you drunk really fast for little money. 091024

So what does the extra kick of more alcohol do to the Koenigsbier recipe? Well it looks okay, some head but not exciting in appearance, carbonated yellow that won’t turn any heads. Smells of wet bread and hops. Taste is syrupy, malts and caramel, finish of wood and oak. I think I liked the less offensive non-forte version better.

Can 500ml.Clear medium yellow orange color with a small average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, sweet malt, malt / brew syrup, apple - raw fruit. Flavor is moderate sweet and light light bitter with a average duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20091024]

Can. A dark golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes metal, alcohol, and caramel malt. The flavor is very sweet and malty with notes of alcohol and metal, leading to a dry metallic finish. The body is sirupy thick. Thanks yespr for sharing.

1/12 From a 0.5 l can found in some Carrefour across the Cote d’Azure. It poured golden body with bigger yellow head. Honey malty and somewhat aroma. Strong, just as its flavor, but now alcohol dominates in it. Besides, it’s bitter in some ugly way, almost like burned rubber. Sugary, fruity in the best was sweetness present as well on the other side. Medium to fuller body with bitterish finish, now notably more pleasant. Didn’t like it as Doggythedog did for sure.

0.5l can, found probably at a big Carrefour in Cannes with heavy (with whom I also shared it). So, I was expecting crap after tasting the regular Koenigsbier, especially thinking of Saverne’s other beers.... Poured a fine gold body though with a big off-white head that went away at a medium pace. The nose was light and dusty, kinda hoppy too. What surprised me most in a positive way was the absence of alcohol. The taste was sweet as expected but hardly cloying, fruity, kinda marred by some very light metallic hopiness. Again not much alcohol, maybe some very light notes. Kinda soft and nice for both Saverne and 8%. And my mother liked it (yaaay). heavy didn’t though, finding some offensive bitterness that I simply couldn’t find. A pleasant surprise, even if it definitely isn’t a world beater. +1 overall because my mother demanded we give it an extra star or something heh.

Can, 8%. Mild malty aroma, some rough hops. Clear golden colour. Very small white head. The flavour is OK malty, not excessively sweet. Has a little rough hoppiness, but surprisingly balanced still.
