Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

Chocolate and caramel nose, mild ashy roastiness. Very dark brown, almost opaque. Foamy fizzy soda pop head. Good lacing. Dry chocolate and roast flavors, dry ashy finish. Medium palate, light carbonation. Feels like a regular porter. A little lingering caramel at the finish.

On tap @ Sunset Grill and Tap Allston, MA. Pours pitch black with little head or apparent carbonation. Nose is maple syrup, smoke and malt. Flavor is surprisingly sweet and malty, with a very faint smokiness. Mouthfeel is light and somewhat disappointing, but on the other hand this isn’t at all a syrupy beer. It’s an easy drinker and not at all what I was expecting. It is worth a try if you can get on draft.

Oxidized sour edge with slight chocolate and caramel. Fruity, with a light body. Dry, tangy finish. Decent but probably too old.

bottle pours black with a thin light tan head. Aroma is roasted coffee and chocolate malt. Bitter black roasted malt and watery maple syrup. Not a fan.

Bottle. Poured brown with a small off white head. I didn’t get much from the aroma other than a light malt. The flavor was similar..a nondescript light malt flavor. Light body with a slight carbonated tingle. I’ve sampled several outstanding Imperial Stouts lately, and this just didn’t pass muster for me.

sample from bottle at Indiana Winterfest - Pours near black and smells of roast malt. It has a sweet, chocolate malt flavor. This brew is medium to full bodied. It’s quite good though I thought it was a little plain for an imperial porter.

Bottle thanks to joshuahfl. Pours black with a creamy 3 finger tan head. Aromas of sweet roast caramel, coffee and chocolate. Medium body with foamy carbonation. It’s sweetish, but not terribly so. There’s definitely chocolate, and the bitter seems to come from burnt malt. Maybe there’s coffee in the finish. It’s smooth, slick and tasty. Very drinkable. Chocolate aspect is subtle and mellow.

Courtesy of kiefdog. Pours deep burgundy with very little head. The aroma is good but good-er describes it better because of yummy fudge brownie, molasses and a touch of roast coming together in aromatic harmony. The taste is smooth and a bit thin while bringing up roast, modest fudge brownie, some caramel, spices, pumpernickel bread a bit of earthy oxidation and smooth D-Lish.
