Bottle. Dark brown. Claims to be sweet, and is slightly so, but not overly. Less sweet than usual sweet stouts, with a good amount of hops. The oatmeal effect is rather east to miss, though. Good, drinkable, not really distinctive.

Bouquet of cocoa currants, charred oak, with a little diacetyl. Black color, no head. Very sour charcoal and parsley. Charcoal finish. Thin mouthfeel and a poor sample of a style I truly enjoy.

Nice roasty aroma, perhaps has some volatile olfactory. Vey black in appearance with no head but decent legs. Initially threatend to be bitter but it morphs thru the palate to a sweeter easier to accept brew. Rich and friendly, fun and interesting. Not as viscous as many better oatmeal stouts. Some medium carbonation is present, acceptable for this style. Has a medium bitter linger that fades rapidly after each sip. Cannot hold a candle to Sammy Smiths or Mackeson XXX but certainly holds its ground amongst the other sweet stouts out there. Exceptionally better than Church Brew Hazelnut and Bells Cherry Stout. Perhaps on par with Bells Double Cream, Left hand milk, Sammy Adams Cream and Lancaster milk stout. A rather enjoyable example of a dark beer. Finish leaves an impression of beer with personality but lacks the offense of many dark bitter beers.

Used a scotch glass, 12 oz bottle out of a winter mix pack. Poured with just a lacing of head. Blaco, of course but penetratable by light. basically, the only redeming aspect of this beer is taste, which is ok. A good amouunt of bitterness. No taste, no aroma, no palate.

12oz bottle-pours a tan head. Color is dark brown. Aroma is yeast, oat, malt. Taste is toasty, malt, sweet and smooth.

I am not much of a stout fan, though I tend to prefer the oatmeal varieties over the regular. Saranac however has not done well in this style though. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a very small dark brown head that fades quickly. The aroma is moderate roasty malts. The body is rather thin and watery which is a real disappointment. The flavor is strong roasty malts with moderate floral hops. The beer is quite bitter and rather dry for an oatmeal stout. Too thin and too dry for my taste.

Bottle. Winter 12 pack. Sweet flavor, and just as the user below me said, it is not very heavy for a stout.

Dark brown color with a very light brown head. Oats are noticable in the aroma. The flavor has chocolate and coffee tones.
