Cask-conditioned at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 19/03/09. Appealing, reddish amber in colour, with a moderate, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and dough aroma with a whiff of red berries. Flavour was cloyingly sweet, with heaps of barley sugar and crystallised fruit. One pint was enough.

(Draught at the brewpub on 2008-07-02) Copper coloured and clear. Medium-sized dense white head. Metallic malty nose. Medium palate with little carbonation. Metallic taste. Also, malts, some sweetness, lightly hops, some caramell and hint of liquorice. Still not good.

On tap at Messrs Maguire in Dublin. Pours a deep ruby, copper red with a creamy, thick white head. Nose is sweet, malty, slight spice and a little metal. Flavor is sweet, bready with some cookie dough. Creamy on the tongue and easy to drink.

Medium shiny creamy lasting white head. Lovely amber body. Faint fruity malty aroma. Dry roasty honeyish caramelly taste with wooden, metallic notes. A bit watery. Soft, mild mouthfeel. Not bad. (0.3l draft at the brewpub.)

Beautiful red-amber color; creamy head. Sugars aroma, covering the rest, then some hops come to the surface. Smooth mouthfeel, some malt flavor, sweet liquorice traces, correct bitterness. Pleasant.

Tap at the bar. Off white creamy head. Brownish red color. Caramel aroma. Complex and smooth taste. Bready finish. Moderately present hops are there. Maltiness enough for all as well. Really well balanced beer in my opinion. My fatherโ€™s favorite beer in Ireland.
