12 ounce bottle from Total Wine in Richmond. GUSHER! That was not expected. Needless to say, a huge head on top of a reddish brown beer. Sweet caramel aroma with grassy and roasted grain notes. Roasted malt aroma with banana, bread and dark fruits. Medium body.

Not bad compared to the regular stuff. Moderate flowery hops with some light maltiness and a bit of cinnamon. Much better smelling than the Pale Lager. The off-white head diminishes quickly over the clear, dark amber body. Taste is malty but watery with a bitter-salty finish. Near creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation make this a pretty smooth drinking mass produced beer.

pours a big retaining tan head and deep red color. Aroma is mild dark malt. Taste is some sweet dark malt-molasses/some chocolate and licorice, bready, dark fruit-plum/cherry, faint hops. Thin mouth feel at finish. Medium body. Some doppelbock-like character. OK carbonation.

Aroma of dark carmel. Dark mahogany color with a whitish head that left rapidly. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. The flavor is roasted caramel with light hop. Fairly bland, but it has a decent taste. I’d rather have a good IPA, but this is a good drink. Better than many dunkels (not that this is one, it is just a pretty good dark beer).

Don’t really know why I picked this up, I think i just wnted to buy some beer. Oh well. Deep ruby red with a fizzy tan head. Toasted malts, molasses, brown sugar, and a touch of coffee. Hmm, interesting. Fairly smooth body, but noticeable carbonation. Flavor is malty, molassess, toasty malts, and some coffee in the end. Finish is light, and roasted. I was pleasently suprised with this one.

Clear mohogany brown body with a medium creamy tan head that rapidly diminishes. Sweet molassas aroma. Sweet molassas flavor with some light fruit hints. Much better than I expected.

bottle. pours a dark amber with a little tan head that stays. the aroma of this one has a chocolate/coffee to it. this laces nicely and has a very caramel taste to it. one of the easier to drink "dark" lagers.

This is an old favorite from when I first got turned on to dark beer. That was about 1980. It’s been at least a decade since I’ve tried this and I am very eager to see how this stacks up against other dark beer I’ve rated lately. This is not a memory rate, I drink as I rate. Stubby 12 oz brown bottle. Nice aroma when you pop the cap and pour it into the big clear mug. Very dark but not opaque. It has a brown tinge that you can barely see thru the otherwise very dark brown color. Flavor is roasty and well behaved, no hint of bitterness. It possess many of the desirable dark beer qualities without the offensiveness of the stouts. Friendly and easy to drink. Does not have too much of that regular Heinie flavors, quite surprised. Has a bit of chewy feel to it. This is a rather decent brew. Much better in flavor than the original Heinie. How about that, an American Dark Lager brewed in Holland? Is that weird or what? Finish is agreeable and delicious. I must mention there is just a touch of mild bitter roastyness on the back of my throat during the end of my last gulp.

12 oz bottle. Brown amber-ish color with thin tan head. Sweet aroma of caramel malts and a touch of cereal. Malt flavor is a bit one dimensional but tasty with sweet caramel maltiness. There’s some faint hops.
