Our Big Eye IPA is a big hoppy brew, thanks to the abundance of American Columbus and Centennial varieties we use to flavor and dry hop. While the English originally added extra hops to preserve their beers for sea travel, we do it for the love of all that bold, intense flavor that makes India Pale Ale one of our favorite styles.

On draught at Max’s Tap House, Baltimore 4/12/2012. Golden with a tight, white head. Juicy hops, tangerines and grapefruits, with some soli malts and dryish finish. Excellent.

Bottle - Well balanced malt and pine, orange and fruity. Very dry and bitter, orange, pine and resin. Much to bitter and dry for my taste.

Pours clear reddish orange with a foamy bubbly head. Aroma of aged hops, malts, fruits and grass. Taste is malty with some aged hops, fruits and grain. Finish is sweetish malty with caramely and hoppy notes. Okay, quite balanced IPA, would probably be much better fresh.

Draught at the Fox and Hounds, King of Prussia, PA. Amber with a ring of white head; resiny hop aroma; juicy in the mouth and full of resinous west coast hops, over an oily body; the finish is dry with a touch of spice. A good example of a standard American IPA.

65 cl bottle @ hotel room, Santa RosaAroma is fruity with hops and mango. Flavour has lots of resin, some fruity hops and mango. A bit sticky feeling at the finish with lingering hops. Rather nice stuff.

Aroma is sweet and heavy with hops and tropical fruits. Flavour is sweetish and heavy with caramel, fruity hops and some grapeftuit in the finish. Not as good as I remembered, starts even to get some distant gluey tones at the end of the glass. Too sweet and heavy, I liked their Sculpin IPA more.

Draught at Brü, Irvine. Clear, deep amber liquid with off-white head. Aroma of cereal, caramel, grapefruit, mango and biscuit. Too malt forward. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of grapefruit and mango. Meidum bodied with low carbonation. OK IPA. 6/3/7/3/14 => 3.3 Bottle. Almost clear amber liquid with medium off-white. Aroma of citrus, pine, mango, tangerine, weed, biscuit and grain. Taste is dry and medium bitter with notes of tangerine, marmalade, candy, biscuit and pine. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice and fruity. Much better than I remembered. 8/4/7/4/15 => 3.8

Pours dark amber with a large, lasting head.Nose shows caramel, resinous hops, grapefruit, pine, soft orange marmalade and light fruit. Very malty.Flavours are similar, lots of sweet clean malt before a piny, resinous hoppy bitterness rolls through.Body seems a bit syrupy.Hop character could be a bit more interesting.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle from JStax poured into a shaker. Little lacing, light/medium carbonation, full body, smooth texture, and slightly bitter aroma. Taste is caramel malt, pine hops, hint of grapefruit, and bitter hop finish. Expected more, too much pine.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating(got it recently from Ohio though, so we should be ok). Pours a lightly cloudy orange amber color with a nice 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Some nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, herbal, floral, pine, grass, orange, mango, pineapple, honey, caramel, citrus rind, and bread. Very nice and well balanced aromas with good strength; slightly more herbal and piney than I am used to as well. Taste of big grapefruit, herbal, pine, floral, grass, mango, citrus rind, pineapple, caramel, honey, and bread. Fair amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, herbal, pine, tropical, honey, caramel, and bread on the finish for a good bit. Very nice malt/bitterness balance in this; with a nice balance and complexity of hop flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slightly crisp mouthfeel. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much no warming at all noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very excellent IPA. A bit more malty than your typical West coast IPA, but I am not complaining. Great hop flavor balance, and very smooth to drink. Great stuff.

From a 355ml bottle on 15/6/2012. Pours a relatively clear dark golden with a biggish head. Has a lovely, big, hoppy aroma which includes caramel, toffee and citrus fruit. This is beautifully balanced flavour wise, with lots of caramel malt, orange, lemon, peach and masses of marmalade, followed by a big dose of dry, resiny, grapefruity hops. The texture is quite oily. A truly superb IPA.
