Bottle in pint glass from The Drinkery, Londonderry, NH. Aroma is bready, caramel, roasted cereal malt with a bit of fruit, yeasty dough and barnyard. Appearance is cloudy (lots of sediment floaters) brownish red with minimal beige head that dissipates fairly quickly and trace lacing. Taste is light-to-medium sweet up front and in the middle with some dry sour at the finish. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with average texture and lively carbonation. Overall, pleasant and highly drinkable but isn’t noteworthy in any way.

It pours a light amber in color and has some visible carbonation seen rising in my nonic. A nice fluffy one inch white foamy head appears and lasts for about a minute before slowly dieing. The smell has some light aromas of caramel with some light spice as well. The taste is slightly sweet ranging closer to some light bitterness from the Christmas spices. The palate is medium centering on a moderate amount of carbonation on the tongue. This is fairly drinkable. It leaves a bland aftertaste. Overall, I’m not really impressed with this one, but for the style, I’d say just average.

From tap at Sunset Grill. Pours clear and golden orange with a small, creamy and white head. Aroma is mild fruity and slight malty to caramelish. Roasted malty and slight caramelish flavoured. Light bitter and medium dry finish.

caramel colored with a quickly fading white head, smells of sweet malts, some small yeast notes. tastes of the same, sweet malty flavor, they might have wanted to make this a scotch ale, but i think they came away with more of a brown/amber ale. maybe they should have used those spices!

Bottle. Medium amber-brown with a good, fine head. Amber malt and yeast aroma, slightly earthy, a bit of caramel and raisins. Very well roasted amber malt. A touch sweet, but primarily dry. A touch of chocolate, with grass and earth, dried fruit. Dry, roasted finish with some hops. Very nice and well-balanced. Not really special, though, and not especially winter-ish.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy tan head that reduces to a lasting cover and copper color. Aroma is roasty, medium malt-toffee, home brewish/earthy first smell +, then ?. Taste is slightly sweet roasty/peat medium malt-toffee/cocoa, some herbal/metallic/aspirin hops. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out.

Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing - slightly hazy amber beer - smells semi-tart, with undercurrents of wintery spices and cherries - the taste is much the same - a little tart up front, followed by a moderately sticky caramel sweetness - a little bit of gingerbread flavor - finishes a little grainy on the tail end - decent, but I question the style designation.

Deep copper coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of malt, figs, pit fruit and caramel. Medium-bodied; Spicey nuttiness up front with malt and caramel once again most noticeable. Aftertaste shows a bit of difference - some nuts and raisins stand out most. Overall, a decent holiday beer to try...pick it up if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 23 November 2006 (Thanksgiving).

A pleasant little beer that pours a nice brownish and red color with a nice tan head. Malty aroma that you know is gonna bring on the sweet taste. Taste is overall rather sweet. Medium bodied methinks. Caramel is there too I say.

Pours a deep, clear orange and ruby tinged brown into a thistle. Off-white micro head recedes to skim surface leaving sheet lacing. Smoky orange aromas. Sweet smoked nuts with a creamy, short marshmallow and vanilla alcohol finish. I actually like this one, but it became a little cloying as it warmed which brings it down a notch or two. Also glad to see it is classified here as an English strong as it is certainly not a scotch ale as the label implies.
