Saranac Black & Tan is a judicious melding of our classic irish stout with an all-malt german-style amber lager. The result is a brew that is hearty, pleasantly bitter and full of flavor, yet can be enjoyed bottle after bottle. Our unique Black & Tan has multiple flavor notes... you may enjoy counting them. Enjoy!

12oz bottle. Deep mahogany brown with an amber glow; sweet malty aroma; thinly bodied, with a rich, dry, chocolate malt flavour; and a dry milky finish. Probably a waste of a good stout.

Bottle thanks to cavie. Pours with a fading, off-white head and a deep brown body. Aroma of cream of wheat and wet malt. Taste is chocolate, leather, grain, and mild notes of crappiness. A copper aftertaste.

Pour is a almost black with a large tan head. Aroma is a decent roasted malt with some chocolate in there. Flavor is more of a stout quality with a bit of chocolate in there but this is way watery. It started out good but in the end this falls really flat.

This B & T poured a deep dark red colour with a nice creamy tan coloured head. A little lacing. To the nose there are scents of nuts molasass, caramel and earth. First taste was smooth but slightly watery. Flavours of molasass, malt and a little coffee. Finish was thick and slightly sweet. Burnt flavour with a little hopp lingering on the palate.

Bottle. Black color, decent tan head. A good aroma of roasted malt. Nice roasted malt flavor, but lighter in body and taste as a result of the lager. Not an amazing beer, but it is very flavorful and fulfils its purpose well as a very nice drinking beer.

Overall Impression: You always see this beer in the Saranac mixed pack (among other places), it's a good attempt at a the most well known type of the blended brew. A solid beer.
