Another great beer from the Saranac gang. A wonderful representation of the Irish stout. It’s full-bodied with a touch of bitterness and notes of coffee and chocolate. Delicious.

Pours mahogany-tinged black into a shaker. Mocha head quickly recedes to blot surface leaving spot lacing. Cocoa aromas. Crisp with hops and chocolate throughout, but in a sour way. Lasting chocolate finish.

Pours deep brown with clear brown edges and thin tan head. The mild aroma has roasted malt notes and a background of faint dark fruity esters. The taste is a bit bolder than the aroma suggested with nice rich roasted malts moving into hints of burnt malts, chocolate malts, faint molasses and dark fruitiness. Into the finish the roasted malts persist and dry out some into the after taste. Nice tasty brew.

12 oz. bottle. Very dark brown pour appears black with a very small head. Grainy and slightly fruity aroma. Big roasted grain taste with coffee notes and some hop bitterness. Very dry.

12oz bottle. I hold a special place in my heart for Saranac Black and Tan, and sentimentalities aside, I still think it’s a pretty good beer. Rich and roasty, with a nice malt backbone that really shines. Moderate alcohol content makes it quite poundable. I commend Saranac for this classic, somewhere in between a Schwarzbier, Dunkel, and a Stout.

Bottle. This had the looks of a stout and the taste of a lager. Near black with a moderate off-white head. Vague roasted aroma with some sweet malt. Flavour was subdued with some coffee and watery sweet malt. A bit bland.

Very dark brown and topped with thick, dark cream head. A slight aroma of roasted malts. Mouthfeel is thin and watery and doesn’t seem to match the 5.3% alcohol. Flavour is rich and complex with strong malty flavours. Thin body takes something away from this beer although probably makes it easier drinking overall.

Bottled (thanks gnoff!). Dark brownish amber colour with mediumsized white head. Aroma is malts, some caramel and burnt sugar. Flavour is malts, paper as well as some hoppyness in the finish. The hops grows in the aftertaste.

(12 Fl oz bottle that a friend brought back from USA) Clear dark brown color, lasting fluffy tan head. Hoppy and a bit chocolate scent, some perfume and perhaps agave. Burnt and rather butterscotch taste, coffee and sweet aftertaste. Spritzy mouthfeel, medium bitterness.
