Sorry, bierkrug, I bought this one for you, but it wouldn’t fit in my suitcase, so it had to be sacrificed. Don’t worry, there are plenty more on the way. This one was a cloudy pale yellow color, thin white head. Aroma of white pepper and dirty socks. Taste is bitter and sour lemon. Good body, but not much complexity, and a bit too bitter.

Better than Shiner Hefeweizen, I’ll give UFO that much. But this overly-yeasty brew loses something important in its translation. And I mean yeasty. There’s some bananas and cloves like you want from a good hefeweizen, but that tang is too much. Doesn’t hold a candle to its European kin. (2/08)

Bottle sample at a blind Hefeweizens tasting. Thanks Mark. Hazy orange. Fruity aroma with some yeast, sweet spices and some caramel. Sweetish yeasty flavor with some unpleasant phenols. Light-bodied. My 16th place of the tasting (out of 19).

Bottle. Hazy light orange with a fluffy white head. Orange-ish aroma. Very little flavor, save a little tart citrus. I guess it would be ok if you wanted a drink of water on a hot day.

Tap. Hazy yellow with a small, creamy head. Citrus taste that requires a lemon rubbed on the rim of the glass to get the full flavor/spice tones out of it. Overall, not a bad beer, but it doesn’t compare to the German Hefeweizens.

Bottle from the summer sampler. Pours a hazy lemon color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus with faint bready and caramel notes. The taste is citrus, bread, apple, faint spices and a very mild hoppiness in the finish. A bit too citrus forward, but a decent beer. Medium bodied and strongly carbonated.

Draught at their Logan Airport Taproom. Pastel yellow color. Sweetish, very spicy aroma. Very lemony flavor with some cloves and not much esters. Decent bitterness. A rather typical American weizen.
