Scotch-Style Ale

So good it’s almost wrong. Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts. Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude that a beer named Dirty Bastard has to live up to. Ain’t for the wee lads.

0.355 l bottle from ’CraftBeer-Dealer.com’, apparently best before November 2016 (import label). Very dark red with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel, molasses, prunes, raisins and candied cherries. Very sweet, malty and slightly fruity taste of molasses, toffee, raisins, prunes, some vanilla, candied cherries and hints of chocolate, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, slightly warming-alcoholic finish. Medium to full body, slightly oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice sipper!

Pours dark brown, beige and persistent foam on top. Aroma is boozy, yet sweet and caramel-acidic. Ripe prunes in a slightly bitter jam. Taste is also showcasing this beers abundant hopping, bitterness from alcohol and from the hops are blending nicely, thick body, solid flavour profile. For me feels like a very good specimen of its style, bitterness is taking out a lot of excessive sweetness, so I think I like this one more than most Scotch Ales out there.

Can from Tanakaya. Pours a deep reddish brown with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Lots of toasted caramel, roasted malt and peat on the nose with a touch of vanilla. More roasted malt and peat on the palate with quite a bit of hoppy bitterness. Not my thing, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do. Well-made.

Tap at Founders. Clear mahogany with beige head. Lots of caramel, light cocoa, brown sugar, toffee and a bit of grassy hops in the finish. Over medium sweet and light bitter. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation and sugary feel.
