So good it’s almost wrong. Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts. Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude that a beer named Dirty Bastard has to live up to. Ain’t for the wee lads.

Draught at L’Europe, Madrid. Pours dark ruby, tan head. Intense aroma is blackberry, raspberry, red gummy, sundae caramel. Tasty, sweet-ish, powerful -to be sipped slowly. Long finish with little hop bitterness. Nice.

BOTTLE 12 OZ. Clear ruby, beige head. The aroma is quite simple - caramel dominated, some malty and spicy notes. The taste is similar, with lots of caramel (but not at all sticky), a strong peppery bitterness with toasted bread notes. Just a touch of alcohol and a smooth easy drinking body. Nice, even though a bit too simple.

35cl bottle. Clear dark ruby pour with a very small tan lacing. Smells of caramel and bourbon. Super smooth mouthfeel. Tastes like bourbon, caramel, toffee, very well balanced. An excellent scotch ale.

Founder’s Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale 8.5% As Founders will be imported in 2016 I decided to crack this bottle Beercation hooked me up with. In my thistle glass this scotch ale is a dark brown verging on black. It’s got a nice malty plum, raisin and dark fruits aroma - rich and savoury. The taste is rich, malty, nutty, dark pitted fruit with a bit of bitter cocoa and dark chocolate. This is damn good stuff.
-----can in 2017 imported----not as nice as my previous review. I’d say I’m not a fan of that slightly acrid taste. Which would probably drop the Taste down to a 6 or 7.
This scotch style ale is much darker in color than the Ise Kadoya Scotch Ale, a dark opaque brown with a pillowy tan head. The aroma is a nutty sweet caramel bread. Medium to light bodied and silky smooth. The taste is a bit a risky bitter dark bread, caramel toffee and mayhaps just a suggestion of nutty notes but nowhere near as strong as the aroma which wasn’t all that strong to begin with.

Bottle at home split with Sarah. Slightly murky caramel brown coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head with a odd green hue. Aroma is sweet toffee, butterscotch, twigs, caramel , some booze, bourbon. Flavour is composed sweet malts, toffee, cakey, rum and raisin cake, woody, bitter wood in the finish, some alcoohol bite. Palate is medium full, sticky sweet, moderate carbonation. Ok barley wine.

Can pour into nonic pint from Cigarette City, Seabrook, NH. Aroma is mild caramel malts. Appearance is clear, deep, ruby red with trace sparkle, finger-width beige head with fair retention and trace lacing. Taste is mild caramel malt sweetness. Palate is medium bodied with creamy, smooth, slick texture with soft carbonation and finish as with taste with hint of bitterness. Overall, this has outstanding appearance and palate but aroma and taste is a bit underwhelming for a beer advertising itself as so bold and powerful. I definitely wanted to love it but just plain like it.
