This West Coast-style Pale Ale is brewed with 80% English barley malt and 20% rye malt. It boasts a massive floral aroma of resinous hops, contributing notes of lemons, peaches and pine needles and anchored by sweet, malty flavor of toffee and freshly-baked pumpernickel bread.

(Draught at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 7 Aug 2010) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus and grass. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus, dried apricots, pineapple and floral hops in the finish. Slightly more than medium body, balanced sweetness, generous floral bitterness. Well balanced and tasty beer. Very nice.

Nice crisp and slightly hazy with a slightly off-white head that fades pretty fast. Aroma of fresh hops, light rye, some grapefruit and pine and a touch of malt - nice. Medium-bodied; Strong hoppy flavour at first with a minor taste of rye and caramel with some lingering piney hoppiness at the end. Aftertaste shows some light bitterness with a good backbone. Overall, a solid rye-based pale with a good flavour profile and consistent taste for the style, just showing a lack of complexity, but thats not a horrible thing. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 04-September-2010 sampled at home in Washington on 18-September-2010.

Lots of gunk on the bottom of this bottle. Darker than a pale lager, more viscous and a little hazy. Nice sparkling presentation with a thin creamy head. Has a dull IPA aroma with a metallic olfactory. Taste is big and bitter, IPA bordering on DIPA. Trudgingly difficult for a lager lover, really lots of personality. Difficult rude nasty presentation that smacks of green grapefruit rinds and hop preservatives. For a highly hoppy beer, this has a goodly amount of CO2. If you are into IPA, better try this one. Long bitter crusty thick finish, medicinal fer sure. Does not hide its alky content what so ever.

Bottle from GBBF 2010. Orange amber with lasting thin beige head. Hoppy aroma, touch of plasticine and spicy rye malt. It’s a decent slightly spicy earthy pale ale. Nice enough, if not too exciting. The plasticine is a bit odd though.

Bottled. Golden colour, small slightly off-white head. Aroma is mild fruityness, some mild bready notes and that’s about it. Flavour is fruits, some nectar and mild wooden notes. A quite pleasant brew in the flavour. Quite zesty aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours a medium gold with a fizzy white head and aromas tropical fruit and pine hops, a bit of rye and pear/honey sweetness. Flavor is a very nice mix of honey and pine and mango. There is a bit of a skunky hops that comes out in the finish from time to time, but it is a pretty minor flaw.

This pours with a tall, 3-dimensional head over a gold body. Sweet malts and light hops make up the aroma. Slightly citrusy. Well balanced, lightly sweet with some hoppy dryness in the finish.

Bomber. Beautiful orange pour with a frothy, clingy white head. Aroma is mainly citrus. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Lots of fruity hop, and spicey malt underlaying that. It’s very delicious, and the rye really comes out as the hop washes away. Little hot bits pop up. This finishes very floral/fruity, and it’s just excellent. The rye note is everpresent. Love this stuff.
