We love beasts of lore. Unicorns, Dragons, and untold combinations therein. When it came time to name our epic Russian Imperial Stout, it only made sense for an epic fantasy beast to become the namesake. Thus was born the Blaecorn Unidragon: part Black Unicorn, part Soul Dragon, and the ultimate mythical beast. This rich and complex brew was designed to improve with age, with aggressive hops and an intense dark malt bill that fill this Russian Imperial Stout with intense flavors and a full body.

Sample at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/26/2013: Inky black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, chocolate and licorice in the nose. Full-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, hops, black licorice and dark chocolate. The finish is creamy with a chocolate and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

22oz bomber shared by Anndiesel. Big ups!!! Opaque brown-black body, steady rusty beige head. Cocoa, hot chocolate aroma, some faint raisin. Big and not really much of a hop overload to balance it out. Sort of like an imperial chocolate Old Ale rather than an Imperial Stout. Lots of dark fruit flavors, all immersed in a sticky, boozed out chocolate flavor. Sort of drinkable for the ABV, but not an impressive Imperial Stout, not sure what they were thinking. I certainly don’t see it improving with age either. Mellow coffee, vanilla tones. Grows on you..would be pretty monstrous thrown into a barrel, because it lacks depth and finesse as it it is.

650ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a large head. Aroma is fudge, tar and dry roast. Taste is quite mild, some fudge and tar with a little coffee in the finish. No alcohol heat, drinks below its strength.

It’s not really a Christmas Tasting in Odense. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, ink and pine/herbal hops. Hard roasted flavour with ash, licorice, hops and a touch of alcohol. Nice and dry, but a little one-dimensional hard roasted

Bottle @ End of the year, Odense Tasting 2012. Pours black with a beige head and lacings. Roasted coffee and chocolate. Charcoal and a good hoppyness. Bitter and roasted finish. Full bodied.

Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a black color with a medium sized dark brown head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was roasty malts, anise, port wine and a hint of vanilla. The flavor was bitter and roasty with notes of cherry, port wine, licorice, tobacco and a pervading boozy presence. The finish was long, bitter and roasty with licorice, port and tobacco lingering and a booziness that would not go away. Fairly full bodied. Interesting.

Bottle 650ml @ Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg Pours pitch black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, alcohol, tobacco, oak chips, chocolate and coffee. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long roasted and licorice finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

22 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of oatmeal, roasted malt, some chocolate and moderate sweetness. Flavour contains light roasted malt, some woody smoky notes, and a bit of milk / dark chocolate. Fairly light-bodied for a 12.5% impy and the ABV is certainly well-concealed. Not very complex or full-bodied, and not really a cohesive beer. Not impressed.
