We love beasts of lore. Unicorns, Dragons, and untold combinations therein. When it came time to name our epic Russian Imperial Stout, it only made sense for an epic fantasy beast to become the namesake. Thus was born the Blaecorn Unidragon: part Black Unicorn, part Soul Dragon, and the ultimate mythical beast. This rich and complex brew was designed to improve with age, with aggressive hops and an intense dark malt bill that fill this Russian Imperial Stout with intense flavors and a full body.

Deep dark, almost fully opaque coloured body with a full on oil slick on top with absolutely no head at all...crazy looking. Aroma of mushrooms, roasted malt, oatmeal, light coffee, earth, caramel and a bunch of pungent bitterness at the end as well. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasty flavours with some malt, earth, coffee, grain, pit fruits, light smoke and some mushroomy flavours as well - quite strong throughout. Aftertaste shows some bitterness from grain and coffee with hints of oatmeal, roasted malt, vanilla and a bit of chocolate as well. Overall, a decent beer with a lot of pungency, but not a great imperial stout due to the mellow flavours, oil slick topped beer and the unphazing complexity which basically doesn’t exist. I sampled this ten ounce pour on draught at Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 19-December-2016 for US$5,00 at the end of my driveway.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks kerenmk. Blac with a tan head. Aroma of roast, licorice, coffee, a bit of alcohol. Bittersweetish flavor, roasty, with coffee, licorice, a bit of chocolate, a bit of alcohol, and a bitter hoppy finish. Full-bodied.

Tap at Draught 55 to finish my first flight. Dark as night pour. Nose is toasted malt and espresso. Tastes of espresso, roasted malts, some smoke, wood, chocolate, and slight herbs. Creamy mouthfeel slightly bitter. Lower carbonation. Quite good

RBESG in Barcelona. Shared bottle at BrewDog bar. Russian imperial stout, 12.5%. Pitch black colour, tan head. Roasty aroma and flavour, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and oak. Well hopped, some smoke. Slightly warming mouthfeel, but dangerously easy drinking for its strength. Excellent beer.

On 9th July 2016, I spied this beer in the glass fronted fridge at the BrewDog bar in Barcelona; 12 Euro for the bottle. Shared with the RBESG guys. What a lovely Imp Stout, what a smooth, lovely Imp Stout. A fantastic beer: love the people at Crown Shoes, not had many of their brews, but each one has blown me away.

Bottle shared at RBESG16. Black with brown head. Strong roasted notes, peat, smoke, coffee, very earthy, old dry wood, wet dead leaves, medicinal notes. Over medium bitter and medium sweet. Medium bodied with slick thin feel.

At first with aroma I picked up a little molasses and raisins which aren’t too bad if they’re kept to a minimum. As it turns out, in flavor they were. Actually mostly cocoa, black malt. Super smooth. Barest hint of alcohol. Killer beer.
