Dark brown pour with a beige fluffy head. Aroma is soft roast, soft cocoa, lots of bourbon barrel, sweet caramel, vanilla and loads of booze. Nice mouth feel, but thinner than I expected, with a soft carb. Very boozy warm finish, loads of barrel notes, big, sweet caramels, coffee and roast. Nice stuff, but the booziness is a bit much.

A number of the Black Butte imperial porters have been tasted and rated before. I’ve liked them all. I’m not sure where or when I obtained XXX, just glad I have it. The label says bottling was on June 18, 2018 and the abv is 13.6%. Potent. I’m scraping the wax from the 22 oz bottle so I can open it. The body is a deep chestnut brown with a consistent medium tan head. The carbonation is obvious and vigorous, maybe the strongest I have seen in any beer. I lift my Buffalo Bayou snifter for a smell, my, that is enticing. Dark plum, dark chocolate and malt. And now the payoff, a drink. Licorice, black cherry, cocoa, whole grain bread, baking chocolate, notification from the barrels and the malt again. A bit of a burn as it goes down, the alcohol rears its head. A high level brew in my opinion.

22 oz. bomber. 2018 bottling. Pitch black appearance. Aroma shows cocoa, raisins, and oak. Flavor is cocoa, raisins, whiskey. Surprised to still taste alcohol at this point. Body a touch thin. Good overall, still thought it would be much smoother at this point.

Bottled on 06/14/18. Pours a dark brown colour with ruby-copper highlights. The head is frothy, lightly mocha-coloured with decent stay and wavy lacing. The oak aged barrel is felt throughout, but all well-balanced. Roasted malt nose with cocoa notes, leather, dark fruits and that vanilla touch. The taste is smooth at first with the roasted malt, coffee, chocolate but a hoppy finish occurs. This leaves a dry end lingering with some light tart from the cocoa. With the high alcohol content, everything is very blended and drinkability is great.

From a 650ml bottle on 31/12/2019. Something out of the ordinary to bring in the new year. Pours a deep brown with a small head. The nose features some light chocolate and a lot of oak and whiskey. Flavour wise, it's very sweet up front with the cocoa prevalent, along with some cherry. It finishes with lots of warming booze. Definitely drinks every bit of its 13.6%. Quite light bodied for such a big beer. The mouthfeel is a touch oily and the carbonation softish. A lovely dessertish, boozy sipper.

Bottle sample at a tasting at zvikar's place. Thanks Tom L. Very dark brown to black, tan beige foam. Chocolate, dark fruits, some vanilla, roast, sweet, a bit umami, a bit of soy sauce, somewhat boozy.

Bottle deep dark brown with a thin brief tan head. Fairly sweet this one. Nots of chocolate and old wet wood. Pretty straight forward and not very boozy. Pleasant
