500 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but was recently released to Michigan. Pours lightly hazy deep ruby red/brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of pear, apple, grape, light banana, pepper, clove, caramel, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, light chocolate, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big pear, apple, grape, light banana, pepper, clove, caramel, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, light chocolate, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spice and light wheat tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of pear, apple, grape, light banana, pepper, clove, caramel, toast, brown bread, brown sugar, light chocolate, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice dark saison style. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Paid $4.99 for a 500ml bottle at Binny’s Lincoln Park location. Dark amber color, looks mahogany with a thin ring of head around the snifter. Light spice, zesty yeast with a presence of candy sugar. Flavor is pretty much exactly as it smells. The balance of yeast and malts give an earthy and spicy finish. Earthy malt lingers well after the sip.

Tap at Lockdown, served in a tulip. Dark amber brown in color. Aroma is light Belgian caramel, not sweet but strong with Belgian candy. Its totally Belgian in character with subdued esters and sweetness. Very Dubbel-esque smelling. Flavor has an airy Belgian yeast character with some bitter malt counteracting the well subdued Belgian candy. Sweet, lightly earthy toasty, and light caramel. Has a nice bitter finish. Easy to quaf, definitely not a saison but more of a light Dubbel. The earthy caramel flavors leave me wanting a thicker mouthfeel and reduced carbonation, which is a bit too prickly.
