12 ounce bottle. Bright copper color topped by a thick rocky beige head. Rich toasted grainy malt nose has obvious rye and caramel notes. Even a note of smokiness is evident. Crisp spicy rye maltiness comes through upfront. Bittersweet and complex, with both malt and hops battling for control. Big spicy bitter hop finish. Very good.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a bright orange color with a large foamy beige head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet grapefruit and other vague fruity hops. The flavor was dryish and bitter with notes of grapefruit, pine, lemon and hints of pepper and cracker. Long dryish finish of pine, grapefruit and pepper. Medium body. Ok.

Pours a dark brown, fading to black. Smallish head. Aroma and flavor are both dominated by the malt. Some hop favors, both citrus and pine, also notable

Tap at the Haymarket Brewpub, Chicago. Poured a crystal clear dark amber with a thin broken off white head. The aroma is malty alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a big alcohol bitter grainy smooth palate. Nice to taste but I’m not sure if want more than a 4oz glass. There’s a lot of alcohol and the bitterness is doing its best to take over.
