Lug Tread is our tribute to the classic Kölsch beers of Cologne, Germany. Lug Tread is top-fermented (like an ale) and then cold-aged (like a lager), giving it light ale notes complemented by a lager-like crispness. It is versatile and well suited to any season or occasion, with satisfying, chewy malts to warm in the colder months, and a refreshing, crisp finish to quench a summer’s thirst. The tracks left in the mud from a small tractor’s Lug Tread tell the tale of honest hard work and close family ties.

Tap at YOW but had many times before. Clear honey pour with minimal white head. Aroma is honey lager slight hoppy crisp. Taste is super crisp at first but opens to malty sweetness. Palate is slightly heavier than expected but good. Straightforward rich but crisp lager. More interesting and pronounced than basic lagers but not that much.

Keg at Sir John A., Ottawa. Clear deep golden, small head. Fruity grassy nose. Mid dry with light-medium body and dense, well rounded mouthfeel. Firm malt, on the fruity/bready side. Mild spicy hops. Lightly minerally with mid bitter finish. Unassuming and charming, with the drinkability that befits a kölsch. One of the best examples outside Cologne. One of the best keg versions.

Draft at Cooper’s. Clear gold thin white head. Average lacing. Grass, herbal notes and some pale malt. Crisp, clean, and fairly hoppy. Can’t complain, hits what I’m looking for in the style pretty well.

Hazy, golden. The aroma has some herbal continental hop, mellow pale malt. Has a dryish character with the same pale malt, a lighter hop and a touch of grainy sourness. It’s that sour grainy stuff that sorts of drags this beer down in the finish.

On tap at Moon Under Water, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out crisp crackery malt and light cereal sweetness. Flavour is crisp and refreshing, with crackery malt and lightly sweet cereal notes. Not much to describe, as it's a kolsch. Decent for what it is.

Tap at Gingerman lunch. Fine golden kolsch look. Nose is faint fruity, and hops. Tastes of grains, herbal, straw, some light fruit, distant hops. Not all that crisp but nothing off putting.
