500 ml can from Family Mart. Crisp, clean hoppy nose, herbal, light citrus, crisp, crackery malt. Bright, clear, gold with a low, thick head. Hoppy, bitter, herbal, lemony, crackers. Crisp as well. Very bitter, for sure. Maybe more than I want. Very nice though, full of character, nice hop flavor, very crisp clean malt. This is good. It is too bitter, for sure, but nice overall.

50 cl can for approx 300Y from a konbini in Roppongi, Tokyo. Beer surprise, "bitter joy", huh? Apparently produced with Hallertau Tradition and Herkules hops. Golden color, clear with some particles, big bubbly and rocky white head that does not settle down quickly, quite impressive, lacing. Hoppy aroma upfront, resin. Aroma is prominently hoppy, a blend of german and some oversea hops with resiny and vague fruity tones, biscuit malt. Taste is indeed quite bitter, in the level of some german pilseners, if not more. Medium body, slick texture, quite dense, average carbonation, finish is short on the aromatic side but with a prolonged metallic bitterness. Relatively complex and well hopped and out of the ordinary, but not a quencher and may not appeal everyone.

Drank straight from the can. Perfumey, grassy hops with some herbal notes. Bread on the palate at first then a rush of hops. Tons of pepper and a bitterness overload....like popping raw goya in your mouth. Hmmmm, I like it, but it is a little overboard. At least it has flavor.

500 ml can. A bit excited here. The English name is stupid as hell, but the Japanese is intriguing: Bitter Joy. I wonder. It’s all malt, thankfully. Noble hop nose, peppery and herbal. Crisp, crackery malts. Clear gold with a medium head. Flavor is coming across something like a north German pils. It is quite bitter indeed, with some peppery spice, a touch of lemon, and herbs. Malts are not at all sweet, but crackery and light. This is a good summer pils. Long-lasting bitterness, really. More than I ever had in a Japanese major. Kinda like a Jever (but fresher than you can get a German pils here).
