Boulevard’s brewmaster Steven Pauwels and Ommegang’s brewmaster Phil Leinhart chose to collaborate on a Saison, a traditional Belgian farmhouse ale. We first brewed two separate batches of beer using our respective house yeasts, and then blended them post-fermentation, allowing both of our yeasts distinctive characteristics to come through.

Brewed with a mixture of pale malt, oats, rye, corn and wheat. Subtly spiced with coriander, lemon and orange peel. Perle was used as a bittering hop, with Safir and Saaz added for aroma. Each of the two batches was fermented with the unique house yeast from our respective breweries. The result is crisp and bready, with bracing hoppiness and a hint of spice lingering in the background. Join us in raising a glass to our new friendship. Cheers!

Split a 750ml bottle in half. Poured a hazy golden yellow color with a large off-white head that I’ve come to expect from Ommegang - just an observation. Aroma was banana esters, spices, light pepper, cloves. Caramel notes, yeasty finish. Pretty tasty actually. A bit heavy, but easy drinking. A bit alcoholic, but easy to consume without feeling too overwhelmed at the finish.

750 c&c from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Good pop from the cork. Pours hazy orange tinge gold with a foamy white head. Aroma of fruity esters and Belgian yeast/spice. Hope that’s not redundant! Near full bodied due to heavy carbonation. Flavor is coriander, citrus, noble hop, and very subdued malt. Not getting "earthy", so I’d not have guessed "saison" except for the label. Belgian strong ale would also work as a descriptive. In any case it is quite tasty - even delicious. Yum! Let’s hear applause for Moortgat letting the Belgian ales roll!
