“This is a beer that has lost its way, like a young skull with no real identity. An innocent pale beer that wanted more. A strong hoppy IPA that fell in with the wrong crowd, tempted in by the darkness, by the decadence of the imperial stouts. Sweet, thick and roasty, yet high on hop aroma and flavour. This is something you have never tried before, and possibly should never try. But you will, you will give in to temptation, and you will succumb to its influences, come to the dark side.

Drink fresh for a big hop hit from the Simcoe, Citra, Pacific Gem and Columbus dry hops. But a complex malt backbone including chocolate malt, roasted barley, oats and what, along with honey and molasses, means this beer will age well.”

330ml bottle. Pours translucent black with little head. Orange, grapefruit, smoke, strong blackcurrant, molasses. Flavour goes a bit harder on the smoke and alcohol, leaving it quite unbalanced. Nice.

Bottle sample @ LIBF’17, thanks to the RB-InBev Belgian crew for the share.

5/VI/17 - sample from 33cl bottle @ LIBF 2017 (Leuven) - BB: n/a (2017-753) Thanks to the Belgian RB crew for sharing today's beers!

Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: malty, lots of dried fruits, chocolate, bit sugary. MF: soft carbon, medium body, alcoholic mouth feeling. MF: bit sweet, alcohol, soft roast, lots of chocolate, caramel, bit malty. Aftertaste: very bitter finish, hoppy, alcohol, soft roast. Might have had a bit more dry hopping, missing some fruity hoppy smell.

Tried in a bottle from crafty bottle. Lincoln. This is batch 0386 and 9.2%. Black colour with a tan head. Aroma fruity, liquorice, and toffee. Taste has rich and deep roasted malt and pithy citrus. Rich and full arming body.

330ml bottle. Pours black with a thin but long lasting tan head. Aroma: hoppy, pine, chocolate, alcohol, dark fruit, coffee. Taste: Pretty much as the aroma, quite hoppy with a nice chocolate and coffee hit, dark fruits, liquorice, light sweetness from the malt. Medium body, soft carbonation, well balanced though may benefit from a bit more roasted malts, awesome beer though an instant favourite for me.
