  Strong Ale - American Winter
Score

Vinter is said to be a crossover between a Strong American Amber and an Old Ale. It features generous amounts of Perle, Citra and Cascade, making it more hoppy than the beer traditionally brewed before Christmas in Norway.

The beer pairs well with heavier meat dishes, casseroles and traditional Christmas food. It is also excellent enjoyed on its own, ideally in front of the fireplace on a cold winters night.

Editor’s note: Vinter was first brewed on contract in the fall of 2013 at Lervig Aktiebryggeri in Stavanger, but moved to 7 Fjell when the brewery was up and running.

On tap at Nedre Foss Gård, Oslo. Dark amber to copper with tanned head. Malty aroma with lots of caramel, some herbal notes and dried fruits. Sweet, but quite balanced and very tasty. Nice one!

Flaske 330ml. Gave fra Rune. Drukket i Skibotn 2 Apr 15. Mørkebrun med et lite rødskjær. Høyt kremaktig skum med litt farge. Antydning til filigranser. God plommearoma. Smaken aprikos, svisker & fiken. Innholdsrik. Tørr avslutning. Litt bunnfall.

Rødbrun klar med fingerhøyt beige skum. Luter både humlen og malten i denne. Sitrus og karamell. Bittersøt karamellsmak og en aning kaffe. Bitterheten forsvinner fort. Litt klebrig. Lillestrøm ølfestival - Klimt

Bottle. Medium brown-red, glowing. Piny nose, caramel, big hops. Chewy malt flavor, caramel, chocolate, some citrus and grass. Very bitter. Seems to be chasing Arrogant bastard. Very nice, silky and smooth body though, with light carbonation. Body works well.

Dark amber with dark off white head - Good hop aroma - Good malt body with dark malts with a good hop profile that leaves a fruity bitterenss - The hops goes into the finish that is fruity and ends dry - This was good

Bottle at home. Pours a hazy, deep brown colour with a light brown head. Aroma of spices, rye bread, plastic bag, brown malt, grassy hops and some pine. More roasted malt in the flavour with coffee beans, grassy hops, grapefruit and more pine. Has a slick mouth feel, and a pleasant and balanced bitterness. A roasted and hoppy ale. Nice enough.

On tap @ Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours very dark brown, with a creamy mocha head. Aroma is burned malts, with toffee and nuts, as well as a nice hoppy back bone. Full creamy body with soft carbonation. Flavour is quite bitter with burned malts as well as hops, where the dark leathery malts dominates initially and a fruity orange peel hoppiness follows to finish it off.

300ml draught at Beer Palace. Decent rings of lace down the glass. Near naked surface to a deep mahogany coloured body, red-tinged. A bit subdued smell of herbal hops and slightly roasted dark malts. Ashy, dark malts to the taste character, hints of liquorice and chocolate culminating in a long-lived, malt-bitter ending. Very smooth mouth feel. A fine bodied and well crafted brew (Oslo 11.03.2014).
