Vinter is said to be a crossover between a Strong American Amber and an Old Ale. It features generous amounts of Perle, Citra and Cascade, making it more hoppy than the beer traditionally brewed before Christmas in Norway.

The beer pairs well with heavier meat dishes, casseroles and traditional Christmas food. It is also excellent enjoyed on its own, ideally in front of the fireplace on a cold winters night.

Editor’s note: Vinter was first brewed on contract in the fall of 2013 at Lervig Aktiebryggeri in Stavanger, but moved to 7 Fjell when the brewery was up and running.

Biggish beige head. Clear deep brown body with carbonation and lots of swirling particles. Spicy minty roasty aroma with dark wood and lacquer notes. Dry-sweet minty roasty spicy taste is very clear and harmonic. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish resiny minty chocolatey aftertaste with spicy wooden notes. Very nice and highly drinkable. (0.33l bottle, from wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

On tap @ Kick mat & Malt. Clear, dark brown/amber body with a nice, moderate sized beige head. Pleasant, rather mild aroma of dark, moderate roasted malt, citric fruit, pine and some chocolate. Flavor is much like expected from aroma, dark, smooth malt, mild roast, some chocolate, fruity bitterness and pine, some coffee and pleasantly balanced bitterness. Both aroma and flavors grows when the beer is reaching a more appropriate temperature (served a few degrees to cold). Fine body and a nice aftertaste where the bitterness rounds off nicely. Some kind of a different interpretation of a Christmas beer that becomes even better at the second and third pint.

On tap @ Apollon. This is a nice cloudy deep copper amber colored one and it has a small quickly islandy and sidesticking off-white top. Smells lovely rich and caramel malty. A nice warm sweetness with nuances of caramelized figs, plums, brown sugar, red fruits and something mild spicy. Lovely nose, just wish I could get it in a better glass. It's most definitely fresh this. Well hopped, not to much but there is a faint bitter light metallic hint here. Lots of grassy goodness here. Nutty bitter with plums and a little bit of red apple concentrate. Feels nice and oily in the mouth with a above average carbonation level. The flavors really hangs in there with a near everlasting hoppy bitter grassy tail with traces of burned caramel and buttery cream in the aftertaste. Lots if flavor, and even if its perhaps a tad to fresh right about now, a fine first one from this exciting new brewer. 21.11.2013

On tap at Kick. A reddish dark brown beer topped by a dense, cute beige head. The aroma sort of surprised me, sweetish and coffee roasted. Some dried fruits, chocolate, cocoa and bonfire. Even more coffee. It’s full bodied and quite dry on the palate. Pleasant carbonation level. Fine flavor too, dried fruits, coffee in abundance. A nice bitterness shows up towards the finish. A beer that needs some temperature to show all of its qualities. Nice. 131212

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Moderate beige head. Moderate aroma of resinous hops and onions. The flavour is first smooth and refreshing, with notes of fruity hops, while the finish and aftertaste has a distinct, sharp and somewhat unpleasant bitterness, with some onion-like sidenotes.
