Bottle. Clear golden color with a really nice head. Aroma was light with good balance but leaning to the hoppy side. Taste is also nice and balanced with the citrusy hops finish.

Pours a slightly hazy dark straw from a bottle. Not much of an aroma, a bittersweet graininess flavor, like a sourdough bread a little bit, good and refreshing. Good beer.

poured from brown bottle into a pilsner glass at home A: A gentle pour yields a one finger head of whitish head which leaves pretty quickly leaving nice lacing on the glass, lasting intact at the end of the glass. Lovely straw to amber yellow color and a great degree of clarity. Carbonation present in streams and is persistent. S: Very nice with an earthy hop pungency. A bit strong for what it is but sharp and eye opening. T: Follows the nose closely with this fat herbaceousness to the hops. Not very strong but definitely front & center. Citrusy springs to mind but mainly just uniquely tart. Malts are understated and clean, letting the hops shine through. A nice bit of crackers or pretzel on the finish. Lemony and refreshing. M: Not much happening. Very light as expected with a really nice bubbly tingle. Bitter but subtle aftertaste. Leaves the mouth feeling clean with minimal stickiness. O: As a lover of pilsners in general, I have to say I regard this one quite highly. Light and refreshing enough for the mower or the card table. Complex enough in flavor to keep me interested without any cloying sweetness or hopping me all about the head & shoulders. The price is nice in my area as well, usually $8/6. Edit: This year’s beer has been renamed Saranac Summer Pils and tastes quite different. Not as fruity/citrusy in the nose or taste with instead a more resinous hop quality. Malts maybe a bit more doughy now than bready. All in all, almost but not quite as good. Rating tweaked to reflect.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Davis, CA. Pours gold with a slight white head. Aroma is hoppy and bready. Med body. Flavor is quite hoppy. Bready with earthy/floral hop. Then it seems to go berry/melon. This hop aspect is all over the place. Quite nice tho. Liking it.

Bottle in mixed 12-pack. Deep gold with a tall, fine head. Standard pils nose, some grass and lemon. Lemony flavor, decent bitterness, rather high carbonation. Refreshing and decent though not so special.

12oz bottle from Orchard Fresh, Orchard Park, NY. AMber with a ring of white head; floral aroma; delicate tropical fruit taste with a solid grainy body, perhaps a little too sweet overall; and a clean floral bitterness to finish. Certainly different from the average pilsner.

Slight off cabbage aroma at first. Perhaps not as sharp at first but goes there after a few moments. Decent co2. I have a place for saranacs in my collection of memories. Plain old pale lager appearance. Goes down fairly easy for its focused bite.
