Spicy yet smooth. Brewed with 10 exotic spices.
This beer's roots are in Belgium, and the classic Wit biers produced by Belgium's brewers. The style gets its name from the white, milky appearance of this unfiltered wheat ale. The brewers of Samuel Adams® beer, taking inspiration from the Belgians, have created a classic of their own. On the malt side, we use malted two row Pale barley, malted wheat, and Munich malt to give this beer a crisp, malty, cereal finish and smooth mouth feel. The hops used are Noble Tettnang Tettnanger hops. At the end of the kettle boil, we add a proprietary spice blend to give Samuel Adams® White Ale a unique and complex flavor, without being overpowering or cloying. The spice blend includes orange and lemon peel, dried plum, grains of paradise, coriander, anise, hibiscus, rose hips, tamarind, and vanilla. It is this special blend of spices that gives Samuel Adams® White Ale its unique character, complexity and refreshing drinkability. The beer is coarse filtered, leaving a white haze from the malt proteins. Our proprietary top fermenting ale yeast ferments the beer, imparting its signature character - bright and slightly fruity.

A mediocre wit but pleasant none the less. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a cloudy bronze color with a small white head. There is a mild scent of wheat, citrus and spice. The flavor is dominated by the wheat with a light mustiness and hints of citrus, honey and faint spices. Mustiness, citrus and honey linger on the finish.

Sam Adams' seasonals continue to be their stronger beers in my opinion. None of them are below average and a couple are really good. This beer is a slightly hazy light orange color with a medium white head. Quick lacing. The aroma is lightly spiced with some citrus as well. Crisp body and very lively and easy to drink. Bittersweet spice flavors of pepper and clove, along with citrus and a pinch of vanilla. The finish is somewhat wheaty. While not on par with some of the better Wits out there, this is a perfectly nice seasonal.

Hazy amber to orange beer with a stale yeasty aroma. Typical wheat beer taste with none of the aformentioned spices. Light hops in aftertaste . Medium bodied beer.

2004 bottle. Bright orange gold, MINIMAL Haze (almost a joke), good white head. Aroma of coriander, lots of wheat and a mild clove. Definitely some lemon rind in there. Flavor begins wheaty with a big peppery coriander kick, more lemon coming through on the body, which is medium-light. Finishes quite acidic for the style, with a big astringency coming from the very dry spicing. Little sweetness is found in this beer. Dry, subtle clove flavors on the finish, maybe a touch honey and dried apricots. Too acidic on the finish though, needs better malting. Rerate. 2004 Draught. Worse than I remember even. Not crisp, nor very clean, muddled meaty spice flavors, and too much unbalanced coriander. Wont be drinking this one again.

The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and yeast. The color is an unclear orange and it has a fine but disappearing head. The flavor is sweet, wheaty, and malty. All in all a pretty boring beer.

Light amber in colour with a thin white head. Smells of wheat, coriander, curacao and cloves. Medium to Light-bodied; Decent wheat, curacao flavours with some subtle spiceyness. Aftertaste showing a bit of the wheatiness and a tiny bit of spiceyness. Overall, a decent beer, definately not true to the style though! I got a sample of this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Green's Beverages in Atlanta, Georgia by Haddon90 on 27-September-2003, thanks Phil!

Bottled. Golden colour, hazy. Fruity crystal malt aroma. Sweet, clean and mild with a light touch of orange peels.
