Bottle from Hasegawa. Dark red/brown colour with big creamy and bubbly beige head. Aroma is lots of hops, resinous, hint of cat pee, brown bread malt. Taste is nice, not as bitter as I was expecting, lots of malt. Spicy prickle on the tongue, long lasting bitterness at the end. Not as hoppy as some red IPAs and all the better for it. Much more malt character. Pretty nice.

Tap at iBREW Shinbashi. Dark red or brownish red pour. Some nice foam on top leaving good lacings. Nose is nice spicy and hoppy, good malty character but also a hint of citrus. Taste is hoppy and citric, malty and spicy base there but blends well and leaves nice fresh imperssion. Good balance and good happiness, well made red IPA, definitely enjoyable. Good stuff.

Dark reddish brown color. Reddish hued head. Nice hoppy fruity nose with dried friuit and caramel underneath. Medium full body. Nice dried strawberry character goes well with citrus character from hops. Prickly hops hit across the mouth. Full body than I was expecting. Decent.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a small half finger of off-white foam. Grass and light citrus on the nose with pepper and caramel malt standing out. Some light peach and pear as it warms up. Average body with medium carbonation. Well-balanced if not boring. Prickly, peppery finish with caramel malt. Not bad. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bravo! Masaji R-IPA on 17 Dec 2015 at 21:38 - Score: 6

A bottle from Asahiya. It poured an opaque reddish-brown with a thin white head which dissipated fairly quickly. The aroma was a nice malt sweetness overlaid with a bitter pine hop smell. The taste starts with the malt followed by a mid-mouth hop bitterness and a back of the mouth puckering bitterness. It’s quite bitter but well balanced and nice to drink. I found out the the R stands for Red as well as Respect for Masaji, nice! All in all a very good IPA though not super complex hop wise, great execution though. I’d drink it again.

Draught at Tenma. A Red IPA brewed with Bravo hops. Great English malt nose, caramel, bread, nice earthy hops. Not super fragrant, rather subdued and classy. The Bravo hops also quite English seeming, earthy and subdued. Great malt flavors, rich and layered, and great balance. Earthy hops provide also strong bitterness. Great stuff.
