This beer is a deep brown color with a medium thick foamy light beige head that recedes steadily to a film. Small patches of lacing. Roasted malt, caramel and hops in the nose. Light-bodied with flavors of smoked malt, caramel and mild earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a burnt malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pour is a very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is some brown malt mocha with a bit of soapiness. Flavor is some chocolate malt and not much after that. It is a bit bitter after the swallow but I’m not sure that’s what they were going for. It’s a brown ale.

Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours very dark clear copper (against strong light) with a slight yellow/beige head. Aroma is nutty, lightly dark treacle, and hinting at smoke. Med body. Flavor is greasy/nutty, enough treacle to suggest cola, and there seems to be a low level smoke. Maybe not. Nut aspect could be confusing me. Certainly one of the tastier browns I can recall.

Can in our hotel room, San Diego, from Public Beer LB, 18/04/14. Dark chestnut brown with a well appointed light tan covering that retains well. Nose is light roast, toffee, nutty pangs, brown bread, hint of cocoa. Taste carries a little less depth than the aroma, earthy tones, light smoke, biscuit, brown bread, faint cocoa. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so.

On tap. Pours with a clear brown body with a lasting, off-white to khaki head. Aromas are of brown sugar, nutty, mild esters, dry with light roast and a hint of smoke. Flavors are dry, brown sugar, earthy, nutty, smoke, tobacco, dry chocolate and nougat. Medium bubbles and quite dry for a brown ale. Sessionable. Nice.
