This classic handcrafted ale, brewed with generous amounts of American hops, including Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo has a complex character and is very hoppy in both flavor and aroma. By using barley malt, Munich malt and crystal malt, this IPA is a delicious medium bodied beer bursting with flavor. A true India Pale Ale. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market). Currently brewed at Stevens Point.

This beer pours a dark amber color with a medium thick and fluffy off-white head that evaporates slowly. Small sticky patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrusy hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of piney hops, citrus and sweet malt. The finish is moderately bitter hops with a short and fruity aftertaste. Pretty average overall.

12 oz bottle into tulip. Pours a brilliant copper penny hue with a smallish light-beige head that collapses too fast into a collar; leaves a resilient blanket of foam. Aromas include cinnamon toast, caramel. No hop aroma whatsoever. Taste is alternating sweet and bitter with a touch of sour. Has a lingering bitter finish. Tastes nothing like an IPA--has none of the hallmarks, aside from the prounounced bitterness. Tastes like a cross between an American and an English strong ale. It’s like a mashup of Fullers ESB and something by Ninkasi, only not all that impressive. Highly carbonated and medium-bodied. Weird.
