This is a classic, American-Style pale ale that displays all of the complex bitterness and aroma from the hops of the Yakima Valley in Washington State. By using a top-fermenting ale yeas strain we bring out the floral and herbal flavor profiles. A clean, malty body is developed from the pale and light caramel malt. ABV 5.4% Bitterness 35 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Notes from June 2010 This particular sample case has been contract brewed up in Utica with 400 other recipes. Costco usually just rebrands things(albeit, quality name brands) so I'm wondering if anyone can guess what this stuff is yet. Best by June 28 2010 Poured into a Rave Vos tumbler. Half a glass of milky, fluffy, off-white head that is slow to settle. Body is a vibrantly filtered, bronze/amber/lightly steeped tea-colored brew. Smell is of starch, pine, parsley, alcohol &... new sneakers? Upfront, the taste is of leafy lettuce-like hops. A mild nutty caramel sweetness follows, backended with just a bit of residual barky bitterness. I agree with the bottle description, it tastes pretty clean. Especially for a ale(bland even). Very grassy, but without much else noticeable in the pot besides a bit of alcohol burn. Subtly sweet, & more bitter then I would of expected(bottle only says 35IBUs). They seem to have used the same boring bittering hops for flavor. :/ Lasting head gives it an airy feel. Good carbonation, without being too sharp. Very dry finish, giving up just a bit of lingering metallic bitterness. A bit boring, but better then the last one(I think).

12 oz bottle purchased at the Costco in Kansas City, Missouri. Best consumed before 10/20/20. The pour is clear golden orange with a minimal white head. The aroma is faint citrus, melon and cereal grain. The taste is soft grass, orange peel, earth cereal grain finish. The palate is light bodied low carbonation and a hint of mineral with the grain finish. Not much to this one.

12oz bottle pours out golden amber topped with a white head. Nose is light pine citrus grass hops and some cereal malts. Taste is more of the nice light hop combo and a cereal malt.

Middle-of-the-road as it comes; notes of caramel, biscuit, and pine, wrapped up in a medium-bodied fee and a pretty pour. Not crap. Not craft. Kirkland!

Pours slightl hazy amber colour, topped with medium sized offwhite head, quite lasting. Very gentle nose, some milder biscuity notes and some very fsint fruitiness. Medium bittery with some milder malty sweetness. A bit medicinal finish and quite lasting aftertaste. Medium body. Not the best one.

Clear golden and light copper coloured body with a decent, two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of cardboard, grass and a light funk noticeable throughout. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and funky cardboardie malt with a lot of assertive bitterness noticeable here without any definitive hop qualities and just pungent, if not stale malt. Aftertaste shows the pungent hops, a lot of bitterness from the malt, some light sugars and a bit of funky medicinal and assertive qualities throughout, but not like a typical APA. Overall, easily the weakest of the four beers from the pack, and while this wasn’t good, the other three were, despite the lower ratings here - they were better than I expected them to be, especially at the price range! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Costco in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 03-May-2017 for US$19,99 for a full case/24 pack of 4 mixed six packs, sampled at home in Washington on 19-June-2017, right in front of said Costco.
