Shared 330 ml can at local tasting. Reddish brown colour, beige head. Very moderate aroma, notes of malts and caramel. Malty flavour, bready with caramel, but not extremely sweet. Very moderate hops. No off-flavours. Fair enough.

Bottle of 72 cl (a measure I’ve never seen before), from an African shop in the Matongé district in Brussels. Thick, heavily lacing, coarse, off-white, rocky head, colour clear bronze with copper hue. Unexpectedly pleasant aroma of caramel, milk chocolate, baked banana, toasted bread, biscuit, iron and some gentle herbal hops, very subtly. Soft malt sweet taste, caramelly, quite ’full’ for a lager, tingling carbonation, toasted accent, subtly bittering with a touch of herbal hops in the finish, though it is the malt sweetness which persists. More a bottom-fermented Bock than a real Dunkel, in my opinion. In any case much better than expected, very decent lager condisering the context in which it is made.

The beer starts sweetish-watery, fresh but smooth. Nearly no bitterness. Very light in taste, smooth, fresh. Malty-sweet in the aftertaste. Nice! 9/12/9/9
