The Chimay Red is the oldest of the Chimays. Its coppery color and sweet, fruity taste make it a particularly tasty dark ale.

In the 75 centiliter version, which is in existance since 1978, this beer is also called La Première.

Tap at the Grub. Sweet caramel, berries, cherry drop sweets. Aroma is yeasty, floral. Better than I remember. --- Beer merged from original tick of (Red / Rouge / Ale / Première / Brune) on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:03 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 8. Full bodied. Malty, some fruitiness (apple, blackcurrant). Bitter finish. Very well brewed and delicious beer, but lacks in taste and complexity compared to a Rochefort.

# 1514. Big disappointment for me. Cherries and apricots in aroma. Sugar and caramel in taste. Little bit herbal bitterness in aftertaste. 0,3 l bottle, beershop, Pilsen (Czech republic).

0,33 bottle. I've been eyeing him for a long time. An opaque, unfiltered brownish-red color, a huge beautiful foam crown, collapses over time, but remains in a nice amount. Caramel fragrance scent with dried fruit, full-bodied delicate, characteristic scent. Easy to drink, not so hard Belgian, just hit carbonation. Spicy, juicy, caramel is real Belgian, but not of the strong variety. Drinking base Belgian dubbel.

Murky reddish brown beer, white head. Bready fruit smell. Taste is rich and fruit, yeast, some hop and a good malty base. A little watery in the finish but it's really nice.

Had this many times over the years, surprised I've never rated it. Anyway, bottle at the Barrel and Horn, Bromley. Hazy brown pour with a beige head. Nose of orchard fruit, toffee, vanilla. Flavours of sweet red berries, red apple, sultanas, sweet malt. Lots of sweet malt in the finish. Nice.
