330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.66%, IBU 45. Malts are pale, cara and choco malt. Hops are Challenger, Smaragd and Citra, yeast is Belgian saison. Dark brown colour, slightly hazy. Huge beige head. Aroma of pine needles, spruce and resin, also grapefruit and roast malts, hints of coffee. Roasty and hoppy flavour, mid between sweet and dry (well, maybe a tad more sweet than dry), coffee, dark bitter chocolate, pine needles, resin and grapefruit. Roasty aftertaste.

Dark red color, good beige head. Salty licorice in the nose with some piney hops. Medium-bodied. Salty licorice, piney-resiny hoppyness. Clean and balanced mouthfeel. Ok CDA.

Dark muddied brown coloured body with a nice, thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted and toasted malt with a good anise note, some cardamom, coriander seed and a touch of rye and grain, all with a faint hoppy smell at the end - not strong though. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rye and grain flavours at first with a deep toasted flavour showing coffee, toffee and earth. Aftertaste has hints of mushrooms and umami flavours with a good hop character showing more herbal elements and a good dose of belgian yeast, of course. Overall, a nice rich beer with a good range of flavours and a well-layered complexity throughout. More of a typical (aside from the roasted malt portion) belgian ale than a Black IPA to me, but I can read English and the label says ’Black IPA’. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased at Bier Tempel in Bruxelles, Belgium on 18-January-2015 for €3,50 sampled at home on 21-August-2015 in Washington.

A very dark brown beer, a head is big and beige. Aroma has chocolate and roastiness, fruitness and hint of pine. Taste is roasted, some coffee, medium bitterness, some pine and fruits. The end is dry with coffee. Medium bodied, strong carbonation. Quite good but nothing more.

Bottle from More than Beer. Dark brown coloured with a thin beige head. Nose is toasted malts, coffee, pine, fruits. Flavour is toasted malts and coffee, dark fruits, hop bitterness, pine and citrus. Medium carbonation. Ok beer.

Bottle. Creamy off-white good mostly lasting head. Red amber colour. MOderate malty and heavy hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter flavior. Long heavy bitter finish. Creamy palate. Nice.

Bottle. Nose is yeasty, caramel, malts, milk chocolate, very little hops. Taste is malt, caramel, straw, pepper, citrus notes of blood orange and a little grapefruit which are not present in the nose, leading to a very dry slightly iron stout like finish. It’s a decent black IPA which is a way of saying not a great beer.
