(bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Nutty and mildly toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel and hints of sugar beet molasses. Sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly bready and toasted malty taste with caramel and distinctive nutty notes; a bit slim sweet-bitter toast-malty finish with notes of caramel and a vaguely herbal hoppy touch. 26.XI.13

Bottle from trade with McTapps, many thanks Sabine. Surprisingly light brown color with small white head. Standard dunkel aroma with caramel malt, hints of coffee. Taste, caramel malt, notes of coffee, toffee, honey. OK.

On tap at Brauereigasthof Bürgerbräu, Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria, Germany.
Dark amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, dusty caramel nose. Too sweet malty, caramel and slight bready taste with discreet nutty touch in the finish. Boring dunkel, 1633 is (much) better.

Reddish tinted amber; small off-white head, fast gone. Caramel nose, like a grilled meat or a BBQ’ed item - my supplier Sebastian -derDoppelbock- says roasted onions. Breadcrust as well. Sweet-caramelly taste, not very distinctive. Still bread-notes, but much less than in the nose. Too sweet and buttery, really. Light body, but a grist-like slickness. OK Dunkel, but not enough character. Then again, just try to find this without Sebastian...
