Lager-brewed with smoked malts, this Rauchbier is mellowed by oak-aging. Black malt flavors mesh with notes of raisins, plums, figs and licorice with the subtle smoke on the side.

22oz bottle shared by MrPickles. Firmly entreched in Rauch, but also has the depth of the Baltic Porter tones. Big specialty malt tones. Woody, nutty, smoky cherry malt tones. Mellow in mouthfeel despite the sugary richness.

750mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of moderate smoked malts, some vanilla, cocoa, and some roasted malts. Flavour of fairly intense smoke, roasted malts and cocoa. The smoke becomes a lot mellower the more you drink. Easily drinkable and smooth on the palate. No hint of the 9.5% ABV. Good stuff.

Purchased from France44.

A pitch black pour with about a 2 finger head of foam.

It smells very roasty with some smoke, malty.

It taste of roasted malt, lots more smoke here than in the smell, solid semi sweet malt presence. Very dry finish. Delicious.

Medium bodied, same for the carbonation, very good mouthfeel.

A pretty strong brew though right for the style....the alcohol, imho, is hidden pretty well. A very good beer.
