05-12-18 // 300ml on tap at the brewpub. Almost clear brown. Beige head. Sticky sweetish caramel malty body. Roasted malt bitterness. Mild hop aromas. Very smooth. Solid.

On tap at the brewpub. Leicht trübes rötlichbraunes Bier mit einer geringen beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht röstmalzig, Karamell. Geschmack röstmalzig süß, viel Karamell, schokoladig, vollmundig, leicht alkoholisch.

a) Rated 2008 as Weihnachtsbock with 6.5%: Mein Bier hat einen schön braunen und cremigen Schaum. Es verströmt einen Geruch von Toffee, Karamell, Schokolade. Der Antrunk ist mild-süßlich und angenehm herb zugleich. Im Hauptteil entfalten sich tolle Schokolade-Kräutertöne, Toffee-Süße mit schön abgestimmter röstmalziger Herbe. Ein Aromenspektrum, das man einem „reinheitskonformen“ Bier wirklich nicht zutraut. Keinerlei störend-alkoholische Note spürbar. Würziger Waldhonig, dunkles Holz, Espressotöne vor allem im Nachgeschmack spürbar, der zwar nicht mehr ganz so intensiv ist, aber immer noch schön aromenreich und tiefgründig ist. Auf der Zunge bleibt eine angenehm herb-würzige Röstmalznote, die immer noch einen langen Toffee-dunklen schokoladigen Nachklang hat. --> Ein wirkliches Spitzenbier. b) Rating from 2009 as Catelator Doppelbock with 7%ABV: Toll mild-weicher Antrunk. Malzig-weich. Zum Hauptteil wird die Note noch deutlicher, leichte Karamelltöne, weiche Milde, cremig-sanftig. Auch der Nachgeschmack ist toll mild-samtig. Leicht röstmalzig-mild und sehr mild. So gut wie keine Herbe und auch keine alkoholischen Note. Faszinierend-weich!!! → Richtig klasse Doppelbock!!!! 15/15/15/15

A sweet, malty, caramely doppelbock with an odd slightly meaty aftertaste. Decent taste though.

The bottle looks simple but good, the beer in the glass is copper coloured, modest yeasty. Starts quite sourish, strong, very spicy-earty notes. Modest yeasty. Not as malty as exspected for a doppelbock. Finish still sourish, also some caramel notes. A very unusual but really good doppelbock!

(bottle) Hazy, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Sweet and moderately toasted, slightly molassy aroma with caramel dried prunes and a tinge of chocolate. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a soft carbonation. Solid and moderately toasted malty base with caramel, marzipan, nuts and shy herbal notes; sweet and moderately toasted malty and bitter finish. Had it also on tap and remember it with more yeast-character and a less sweetness. 19.XII.09

Bottle: A bit unclear, ruby-amber coloured, small to medium-sized lacy beige head; light aromas of caramel, toasted malt, milk-chocolate and unfermented mash in the nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; delicate roasty and mashy aromas, mixed with milk-chocolate, in the sweet-bitter finish. Not bad, but very tame......

Muffig-süßer Start, etwas malzig, darüber aber stärker herb. Milder und langweiliger Mittelteil, das Bier wird malziger, die Herbe verschwindet weitestgehend. Im Nachgeschmack weiter milder, herb, etwas muffig. Test vom 5.1.2008, Gebinde: Fass Noten: 9,8,7,7,-,7 - 7,36
