Nosferatu (Bird of Death) a.k.a. Count Orlok was THE German Count Dracula. He was a blood-sucking vampire, but being German he must’ve enjoyed beer too, right? We believe it is so and thus have created a Black Pumpkin Wheat Ale in his honor...a ’beer noir’ if you will.

16 ounce can from Tavour. Barely translucent dark brown color. Creamy beige cap. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa, cinnamon and allspice. Flavor upfront is light in body. Some cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. A bit like a Dunkelweizen. Pie spices are rather subdued. Given the label artwork, I was expecting more.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear dark brown with orange glints and a decent foamy tan head. Aroma of pie spice. Not quite med body. Flavor is pie spice, tho a bit peppery, and it seems a little wheaty. Dry, but more spice than bitter. Think I may be detecting actual squash. A veg thing. Decent but different.

16 oz. can from The Bat Cave. Pours a dark root beer color with a huge beige head and excellent retention. Good lacing. Yeasty aroma, like a Dunkelweizen. Dark wheat Dunkelweizen flavor too, with slightly less yeasty flavor than the aroma, and barely any pumpkin pie spice flavor. Lots of cloves too. Medium body. Low carbonation and low bitterness. Decent Dunkelweizen, but a disappointing pumpkin beer.

On tap at the biergarden. Pours a hazy brown with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Flavor has a good amount of pumpkin spice with pumpkin and bread supporting. Flavor starts with bread and pumpkin but has pumpkin pie spice through the finish.

Bottle. Earthy pumpkin, caramel malt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and straw aroma. Dark brown with small head. Mildly sweet pumpkin malt, light spice, and mildly bitter dry hay flavor. Decent body.

500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average to huge, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Sweet-ish pumpkin aroma, hints of clove, a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste is dry, dark malty, mild pumpkin notes, a wheaty touch, minimally tart-ish, unspecific fruity overtones, a touch of cinnamon and clove. Twinkle-toed Pumpkin Ale, not a mu fusty, not too sweet, well-considered mildly spiced. A cheers for Urban Chestnut, a cheers for (Bielefeld-born) F.W. Murnau: "The Master is coming!... The Master is here!"
