Nelson Sauvignon is a New Year beer it is fermented with ale yeast, brettanomyces and enzymes. Then it has been aged three months in Austrian white wine casks. Very dry, very vinous and very delicious.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, consumed at Isobel’s (lozs mum) 31.12.11 Glowing orange/amber colour with a sticky white head. Wet perfumey wood on the nose, tangy fruity with apricots and grapefruit in the mouth, also funky and with a dry & furry coating left around the gums. Not totally my thing to be honest whilst I started off by enjoying this after a while I became less enamoured with it and at £15.99 a bit pricey to feel like that, still top marks to Mikkeller for trying something like this. Clear coppery body with strong carbonation. Huge offwhite head. Wooden funky gooseberry aroma with white wine grape notes. Dry-acidic wooden gooseberry pineapple taste with alcohol notes. Mid-bodied. Dryish wooden citric pineapple aftertaste with white wine notes. Nice, but didn’t like the acidity. (0.75l bottle shared by hcalsos.)

750mL bottle, pours a beautiful vibrant opaque orangey amber with a voluminous white head. Aroma is very vinous and yeasty, with loads of brett-like yeast, sauvignon blanc, dry lemon and orange zest with a bit of fruity notes. Flavour is incredibly complex with an amazing balance of dry white wine, brett, dry fruity notes, lemon rind - so much depth and balance, with strong lasting flavours. The barrels accentuated the complexity so expertly. Damn delicious.

Pink grapefruit and lilly bouquet, strong and wonderful. Cloudy copper, thick yellow head. Tangy grapefruit flavor, nothing else, but intense and delicious. I could drink this all the time.

Pours hazy amber into a snifter. Off-white head with excellent retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet sour summer fruit and brett aromas. Dry with sweet funky tropical and summer fruit upfront turning to grapefruit in the lasting sour funk finish.

750 from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA as the Brut. Purs hazy copper with a creamy foamy beige head. Aroma of light stone fruits, barnyard and floral hop. Flavor is pretty much the same. A taste is worth a thousand words. Brilliant ale.
