A decadent oatmeal stout. Velvet Merlin offers robust cocoa and espresso aromas with subtle American hop nuances. Rich dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with a creamy mouth feel and wonderfully dry finish create the perfect balance in this full-bodied stout. Ideal for sipping in the winter months or at the end of a meal.

On tap. Pours a hazy dark brown with reddish hue and a large, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee and oatmeal. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel and oatmeal with a dry, mild bitter coffee finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Rich, well balanced and delicious.

355ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, beige head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee, burnt coffee bones, cocoa, a touch of liquorice and tobacco. Taste is roasty dark malty, notes of espresso, coffee, cocoa, subtle sweetness with a touch of treacle and liquorice, mildly bitter hoppy counterweight with minimally metallic touch. Superbly balanced, smooth palate, highly drinkable.

Bottle, bottled 01.12.2016 (from beergium). Pours dark brown-black with beige head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, roast, coffee, some oatas. Flavor is sweet and bitter, roast, coffee, malt. Finish is roast bitter. Feels light but not watery, really well balanced. Overall: great beer, really well balanced, really clean (but not dead), Reminds Fuller’s Porter for some reason.

Keg at BD Soho. It pours jet black with a substantial tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, coffee, liquorice, umami, toasted sesame seeds, cacao nibs and some toffee. The taste is smooth, rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, peppery spice, coffee grounds, earth and toasted spice. The finish is very smooth. Medium body, moderate carbonation and creamy mouth - feel. Well rounded and rather flavoursome. A classy stout.
