A decadent oatmeal stout. Velvet Merlin offers robust cocoa and espresso aromas with subtle American hop nuances. Rich dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with a creamy mouth feel and wonderfully dry finish create the perfect balance in this full-bodied stout. Ideal for sipping in the winter months or at the end of a meal.

Bottle pour into tulip glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, roasted coffee, oatmeal. Appearance is very dark red--almost opaque black--with 1/2 finger width beige head with poor retention, evident sparkle at edge of glass and trace lacing. Taste is as aroma with dominant balance of sweet chocolate and roasted coffee bitterness, hint of dark fruits. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with creamy texture and average carbonation; crisp, dry finish. Overall, pretty much as advertised. Not the most complex beer but a good strong mix of sweet chocolate and bitter coffee.

Bottle. A- Roasty, smoke, char, dry cocoa. A- Black color, dark liquid, light brown head. T- Charred, smoke, roasty, dry cocoa. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, dry finish. O- Pretty darn underwhelming. Lots and lots of dry roastiness and a char smokey character to it. Not going to lie. I imagined it to be a lot smoother and more of a coffee taste to it.
