This is the beer that started it all. Craft beer in Australia has come a long way since we first brewed this English amber ale in the mid-90s, but Hightail Ale is a classic for a reason. With a rich and complex malt backbone, and a delicately hoppy finish, this flavour bomb still packs a punch.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Ariel. Clear deep reddish amber. Aroma of stale-ish malt, caramel, some toastiness and a bit of fruitiness. Sweetish flavor with malt, a bit stale-ish, with toastiness, a bit of caramel, mild fruitiness and a bitterish finish with light hops. Medium-bodied.

A dark coppery beer with a quite weak but long lasting and blond head. The nose is strongly nutty with some toffee, wood and hint of citrusfruits. Quite nice. Taste of nuts, wood, quite dry, nice bite of hops with wood and herbs. Medium bodied, quite high carbonation that is smoothening after a while. Surprisingly nice to drink even the quite low alc. %. Nice and nutty beer but also quite fresh with nice bitterness.

Light amber, hazy, bit of caramel and biscuity nuttiness. Balanced but I suppose I want more hop.

Bottled (Thanks laiti!). Ruby colour, mediumsized off-white/beige creamy head, that leaves good lace. Aroma is some floral and parfumeish notes along with some bready malts to it. Flavour is fruity, mildly toasted along with some slight toffee and bittery floral notes. Quite ok, but not as enjoyable as the steam ale.

33cl bottle. Poured amber with a thick white head. Nice aroma of fruity, piney hops and caramel, some herbalness as well. Flavor quite similar with hops, caramel, sweetness. FInish is bitter and has nuts and caramel lingering. Tasty brew.

33 cl bottle @ home, BBE 18.06.2014
Aroma has resiny malt and some fruity tones. Feels slightly acidic. Flavour is malty with some resin, berries, and fruits. A bit thin and the flavour feels short, but I like the resiny notes here.

Bottled 330ml@Beer Hunters
Deep ruby color, small beige head. Piney, "menthol" aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Nutty, piney malty flavor. Excellent brew for this ABV and the best one from Mountain Goat. (7/3/7/4/14 3.5)
Keg@CBC2013 Deep amber color, small off-white head. Piney, flowery hoppyness with some caramel in the nose. Light-bodied. Front is a bit ryeish, some caramel, earthy hoppyness. Ok but not very interesting. AR 6 AP 3 F 6 P 3 OV 12 3.0
