This is the beer that started it all. Craft beer in Australia has come a long way since we first brewed this English amber ale in the mid-90s, but Hightail Ale is a classic for a reason. With a rich and complex malt backbone, and a delicately hoppy finish, this flavour bomb still packs a punch.

Hazy brown beer, good off white head. Light crisp palate, minerally crispness. Seltzer minerals. Pretty mild hops. Semi dry finish. Wishy washy!

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. Ts deep blurry dark deep amber in color and it has a small islandy and sidesticking off-white top. The nose is not all that spectacular, meaning not bad at all, bit perhaps a bit mellow? Some fruity sweetness, melon, a trace of yeast and zest. Red berries also, bit not to memorable. Nice flavors though, but also here a bit mellow. A bit thin on the mouthfeel with a nice small prickling average carbonation level. Red berries and melon sums it up nicely. A soft bitterness comes shining through in the finish and aftertaste. Fair enough. 03.05.2013

Tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours clear, light amber with a fine, creamy cap. Light toasty malt nose, hints of pine. Light to medium sweet flavor with some bread and clean hops. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Clean finish, some further toasty bread, light piney bitterness. Decent stuff.

330ml bottle bought at Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Shared with Finn back home. Amber coloured body, decent beige head leaving spotty lacing down the glass. Leafy hops and brown malts on the nose. Modestly flavoured with leafy hops and rather sweet malts. Mild bittersweet ending. Thin to medium bodied. Average (Tromsø 29.05.2013).

The sweet, slightly chocolatey aroma is mixed with some damp basement to make for a slightly unusual flavour. The palate is disappointingly watery and the malts seem to almost disappear altogether. It’s redeemed somewhat by the light hops, but overall the taste fails to live up to that pleasant aroma.

Fra fat på CBC mai-13: En noe anonym amber ale fra Down Under. Litt uklar ravfarge. Floral aroma og smak. Middels munnfylde og bitterhet. Ikke lett å hevde seg med 4,5% når man er omgitt av power brews.
