Dark brown to black colour, white head. malty aroma, caramel, carbonic acid. Light sweet malty flavour, pleasant bitter, caramel, hint of fudge. Finish caramel and malts. Nice take on a style that, admittedly, isn’t my favourite exactly.

Bottle at home. Dark brown with tan head. Sweet roasted caramel malts, alcohol, dried dark fruit (prunes, raisins) and some banana and orange peel. Sweet and light bitter. Over medium body, very malty slick texture with a little fine grain. Alcohol up front and sweet roasted, light bitter buttery finish. Very robust heavy beer but a bit plain for the high abv.

(Draught at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam, 19 Feb 2016) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, chocolate and dried fruit. Malty taste with caramel, dried fruit, toffee, chocolate and a gentle spicy bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty, well balanced and quite heavy. Nice one.

0.33 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’, best before December 2017 (hardly readable). Clear, dark red with a thin, frothy, almost stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty, moderately fruity and slightly roasty aroma of blackberry, raisins, caramel, aniseed and some chocolate. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity and minimally roasty taste of caramel, molasses, raisins, blackberry and some chocolate, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, roasty and a little spicy finish. Medium to full body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice, no alcohol whatsoever detectable, superbly balanced, but could be more intense as to aroma and flavour.

Bottle sample at PINT Winterbierfestival ’16. Dark brown to black colour, no head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, brown sugar, a bit like a Belgian Scotch. Flavour is medium sweet, roasted malts, burnt brown sugar, chocolate, nice bitterness, decent sweetness, some citrus. Medium bodied. Nice.
