Princessebier is a traditional Dutch beer style, popular in the 18th and 19th century. Brewed for the 30th anniversary of In De Wildeman in Amsterdam. Brewed with aniseed and orange peel.

Hazy brown colour. Aroma and flavour are floral and also have plenty of aniseed. Slightly tongue numbing.

Tap @ in de Wildeman, small sample. Almost clear amber to copper color, short frothy head. Aroma of aniseed, slight toffee and toasted malt, spicy. Spicy aniseed in taste as well. Dont get a lot of orange peel or other fruity notes. Its mostly aniseed on a base of toffee and toast. Bit overdone, but still drinkable.

Draft at In De Wildeman. Clear brown with a tan head. Aroma of massive licorice, aniseed, black tea, woody notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Tap @ In De Wildeman, at their 30th anniversary fest. Clear copper color. Big, dense, rocky off white head. Aroma’s of aniseed and red fruit. Even more aniseed retronasal, with fruit and grain. Flavor is especially herbal, spices, light sweet. Light bodied. Finishes light bitter and dry, spicy. Not bad, as I like anise a lot, but a bit over the top.

Sampled from tap at ’In de Wildeman’. Clear, dark amber with a medium large, frothy, stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty, very spicy aroma of licorice, aniseed, fennel, coriander and some caramel. Sweetish-malty, very spicy taste of caramel, licorice, aniseed, fennel and coriander, followed by a short, slightly bitter, spicy finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very interesting, lots of spices, quite drinkable but not really my kind of beer.
