Handpump @Mad for Beer (Rome). Bruna scura, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma beige media e persistente. Al naso sentori di malti tostati, cacao in polvere, liquirizia, toffee. In bocca è dolce all'attacco con finale appena amaro e leggermente sapido, molto ben equilibrata. Corpo medio, carbonazione soft. Ottima!

Can. Nose is caramel, marshmallow malt light smoke and earth. Taste is sweet caramel, marshmallow, hint of cola, very little salt, slight herbal hop note in the finish with light salt. It’s OK.

Handpull cask at the Criterion, Leicester. Black with a small loose cream-coloured head. Lots of liquorice with an herbal medicinal note. Sweet with noticeable caramel taste. Finish is a bit rough and too boozy for 6% beer. Thick oily body. This was good enough but didn’t live up to my expectations.

Cask-conditioned at the Three Judges, Glasgow 13 June 2017. Near black in colour, with a decently-sized, beige, head. Sweet milk chocolate and brown sugar notes, some toastiness, vanilla and a rich, yet gentle, finish. Very good.

330ml can. Almost black in colour, thick three-finger tan head. Aroma: chocolate, roasted malts, caramel. Taste: chocolate, roasted malts, caramel with just a touch of saltiness about it, sweet with a mild coffee-like bitterness, slight taste of alcohol too, strange given it’s only 6%. Decent body and nice mouthfeel, and yeah... chewy.

500ml bottle. Pours a deep hazy dark brown, moderate tan head. Aroma of dark malts, bitter dark chocolate, lactose. Taste presents a nice chocolatey milk stout, although lacking in promised salted caramel. Perhaps some coffee bitterness emerging. Decent stuff.

On tap at Mother Kellys Bethnal Green. Dark brown almost black beer lasting tan head. Some milk some caramel some salt some chocolate. It’s decent and balanced enough Southern Tier would have done a shock and awe version which i would have loved. Perhaps my palate is getting jaded. Decent balance love the chocolate cararmel.
