Spey Stout is the beer for which a brewery was built! It was named before Spey Valley Brewery even existed, and the aim of the brewery from day one – to produce a world class dark beer, which even light beer fans could enjoy.
Full bodied and smooth with the rich aroma and robust flavours of liquorice and chocolate, Spey Stout has had great reviews from stout fans and its clean, well balanced flavours have been known to convert a number of light beer fans to the dark side!
Malts: Maris otter, Wheat, Crystal, Chocolate.
Hops: Northern Brewer, Lubelski.

ABV: 5.4%. Clear medium to dark red brown colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy and open, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, dark malt, sweet malt, chocolate. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet with a average to long duration, sweet malt, dark malt, chocolate, licorice touch. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20191011]

Bottle from an advent box. Pours near-black with a dark red hue and a short-lasting creamy head, aroma is of roasted malt and there is some sweetness hidden within the dark fruit and chocolate flavours that are evident. Not a bad little drop, just a little thinner than hoped for

Cask at Robin Hood Beer Festival 2019. Dark brown with beige head. Some roastiness, moderate chocolate, cocoa, licorice, some fruity notes. Sweet. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Almost black/dark brown, creamy foam. Aroma: caramel, cake crust, sweet, jam, slightly wine. Taste: sweet caramel and jam, dried fruit and cake, slightly burnt crust, not bad.

(bottle, 33cl) Dark brown to black colour with a beige and short foamy head. Mildly roasted malty aroma with notes of bread crust, toffee, liquorice and hints of vanilla. Bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a modest carbonation. Mildly roast-malty and slightly earthy taste with notes of caramel, liquorice, molasses, as well as subtle fruity flavours, especially towards the bitter-sweet and delicately tart finish. Bottle: Deep ruby-amber coloured, smaller stable off-white head; moderate sweet-bitter nose of toasted/roasted malt, liquorice and dried berries; moderate bitter-sweet flavour with a very well hidden secret acidity; medium bodied and soft; lingering drier bitter-sweet toasty and fruity finish. Black beer, beige head. Malty smell. Flavour has malt, chocolate, berries, a touch of citrus. Creamy mouthfeel. Very drinkable.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black but a hint of orange around the rim. Nose - milk chocolate, probably verging on drinking chocolate. Taste - creamy chocolate, light caramel biscuits. The lengthy finish gets even more caramel and biscuits. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry crunchy finish. Overall - a really good traditional stout.

500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with red glimmer and small, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty, slightly chocolately, dark malty aroma, a touch of liquorice, caramel, white coffee. Taste is roasty dark malty, subtle sweetness, hints of liquorice, minimally metallic and salty; smooth, minimally sticky palate.
